Auto Climate Control Repair Services

My 2002 Limited 4R Climate Control is shot. The buttons don't work and can't turn on a/c at all. If you still repair these systems, please help me! It is over 100 degrees in St. Louis all week and I'm frying. Please let me know if this is a possibility. Thanks

He does. Message him if you can. He may have a unit he can swap you for a bit extra over his repair cost. I don't know what his inventory looks like, but that's the option I went with since I'm baking in similar heat. Had it at the house in 3 days and swapped in about 4 minutes. Worth the premium to get it done.

John just repaired the CCU for my wife's 4Runner, with the LED upgrade - it works awesome, and I can see it at night again! out and back in a week, with tracking numbers - Thanks John, couldn't have asked for a better job!

Where is said LED upgrade? Do you have the bulb numbers?

I don't need the OP to fix mine but the first one in my 99 failed in 2006 for the first owners, and a replacement unit cost and labor for a new one installed was $997 with taxes. That is why they sold the 4runner to me. Damn stealership.

Kudos to the OP for offering a great DIY service.

I don't have the bulb numbers, but they are for the dash backlighting (inst. panel lighting). John did mine in the green (looks stock) color, but has other choices, too!

I appreciate the reply. He is already fixed it and it is on the way back. Trust me I can't wait to hopefully feel cold a/c for once! And yes the midwest has been a frying pan the last week!

On my control it works fine if i slightly put pressure on the middle part of the front board. I think i hit all the joints with the iron but i am still having issues finding the last sob. any help would be appreciated!

Climate Control

I got mine back in 5 days, it works great and I had the green LEDs to stay close to an OE look. It works great, John fixed it over a weekend and mailed it Monday morning.
it was a piece of cake to remove and replace, glad I got it done before winter.

Just got mine installed today. Turn time was super fast, and all the lights and functions are now operating normally.

Super thanks for such a great service. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Just wanted to say wow. Mad fast turnaround time. Day he received the unit is the day he fixed mine and shipped back out right after. Love the leds and service . Thanks !

It has been an goal of mine for the time I bought my 1st 4runner 16 months ago, to find a fix for these Auto climate controls in the Limited models. I recently purchased a 99 Limited with the same problem as my 2000 - unresponsive buttons, erratic temp and fan speed controls, etc. Well, after working on my latest 4runner's controls I have successfully fixed it. I since then have repaired 3 others (2 friends and one I had sitting in a box in pieces because I couldn't fix it with the soldering setup I had. I spent a good bit of money recently on a soldering desoldering station and a DC voltage generator and this allowed me to confidently repair these control units. The problems I've found are cold solder joints, a bad switching transistor, and a couple bad buttons (probably from being mashed because of the unresponsiveness)
Anyways, I would like to fix a couple of units for you guys for free (you would have to pay shipping) as a favor and payback for all the help I've gotten from this forum. I'll do 3 freebees then going forward, I'll fix them cheaper then anyone on Ebay (I think the cheapest now is $68) I'm not looking to make a lot of money, just want to help some people out and get back a little of my investment on my soldering station (it wasn't cheap) I eventually would like to provide a backup unit for people to use, or just sell the backup and provided I get their unit back. I think DAT does it this way. I also would like to upgrade the unit to any LED color the customer would like as a lot of people are using the LEDs now. What do you guys think? I guess the best way would be to jump right in, so the 1st 3 people that PM me, I'll do for free, after that I'll figure a fair price at a cheaper rate than anyone on Ebay. In case your wondering my qualifications I graduated with honors from DeVry University with an AAS in Electronics, and have been doing quite a bit of component level repair for the last 15 years.
I hope to help a lot of guys out with this problem that has plagued these units. Any other questions or comment feel free to post or shoot me a PM.

My 01 4Runner has this weird issue sometimes where I'd set it to 66-69 and instead of blowing pretty cool air, it blows out hot air like it's set to 75 or something. Is that something you can fix? Heck, I'd prolly pay you for just upgrading the LED since I can barely see mine.

Also how do I remove the unit from the dash? I think people would appreciate a step by step process (pics are a bonus).

Outstanding Service

I just got mine back from him and it was quick turn around time. There and back and rebuilt in a week. It's being put in while the Runner is at the shop getting a few others small things looked at. Thanks again man. I have never felt the clicks in the nobs lol. Kinda nice.

Just fixed mine with a replacement from John.
Quick turnaround, and the replacement is idiot-proof to replace.
Long live the 3rd gen heat in winter!

I sent mine to John in NJ so this must be the same guy. It was fast and it works great.
One of the LED went out and he replaced it right away. I stuck with the OEM green - i like that weird glow..LOL
I am so glad to know someone can fix these things. Kudos!!

I sent mine to John & he was super quick and works like a charm! My only wish is that I found this thread a year ago when I bought this T4R!!

Thanks John!!!
