Auto Setting on Temperature

Yep, that's exact what my '05 doing. When you press an "Auto" button, "AC" will come on also. So I set the temperature and forgot about playing with it. Works nice, and even when I'm turning on the engine again it's in "ON" position, but without AC. Right now it's snowing and -3C in Toronto and I have my temperature inside set to +22C. Works fine. You just should get used to this feature

The AC in the winter will pull the moisture out of the air in the vehicle and help prevent the windows from fogging up. Set it and forget it. I have never been able to convince my wife to not override the fan at cold start-up. She slams it into high and just blows cold air around but she is convinced the air is warmer than inside the cabin. The logic just passes her by or she just chooses to ignore me. More than likely the latter.:bash:

Ok, so far ive been pressing the auto button, then pressing the ac botton to turn off the ac. My reasoning was why waste mpg with ac compressor on, when all I want is heat. If it is supposed to be on for the reason you stated that does make sense though. I do like the delay at cold start up though, instead of blowing cold air in your face, it waits until it has warmed up. Pretty fancy!!

I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but you can actually have auto climate control AND use whatever mode for air direction that you wish.
First, press the auto button, then select where you want the air to go......the auto light will turn off, but the temp is still in "auto mode." Then set the temp for whatever you want, and it will control fan speed and heat/a/c until it gets to that temp. If you touch the fan speed tho, it will be in total manual mode.
I also turn off the A/C and recirculated air buttons most of the time cause I rarely need either......unless it's really hot.

The AC compressor clutch only engages on an as needed basis depending on the demand. It may only engage once ever 5 minutes in cold weather. Just enough to keep the humidity level down. That lite amount of use would cause only minimal extra gas consumption. Maybe a tenth of a MPG less. The only adjustments I make are to turn on the defroster when needed and changing the temp up or down. The set it and forget it method leaves you with one less thing to worry about when driving.

When the setting is on "AUTO" I know it kicks on the a/c and blows down to your feet. However, if I try to change the pattern to ANYTHING else (e.g. both defroster and feet , feet and body, etc.), the AUTO climate control shuts off.
Is something wrong with my climate control? I could have swore you can change the blowing pattern and still maintain the AUTO temperature.

Where are you from? South states? It also blows down to the feet when it's hot outside. I'm in Canada and it was -10C (13F) this morning, so my controls was set to AUTO and it was blowing to windshield. The system analyzes the outside and inside temperature and making a decision where to blow the air.
