Awd?

So I was wondering, can a AWD drivetrain from a limited work with a 5spd? All the ones that I have seen were autos.

It would be interesting to know actually, cause if it works, I wouldn't mind looking for a 2002 4Runner SR5 and swapping in a manual tranny, since it's so hard to find a 5spd V6 up here.

I bet it's a monster project and if it was reasonably feasible to do I think it would've been attempted by now.

The issues come from rewiring and ECU complications and I bet there are different sensors at each wheel that would need to be swapped over too. And then there's the cost.

I belive 2nd gens had a one piece tranny/transfer case on thier automatics. Do the thirds run the same?

Yes, the 2nd gens did share fluid between the xfer and tranny, this is not the case on 3rd gen autos. The tranny uses ATF while the xfer calls for gear oil.

so the thirds have a separated transmission and transfer case? so what make them AWD? is it the t-case or the axles?

The transmissions were unique to the '99-'00 Limiteds but I think the transfer case is the same on all 4wd 3rd gens.
