Axle shaft wear?
I have pulled the rear axles shafts and the bearings feel like they are bad, especially on the driver side. When I drained the oil I noticed a lot of silver paste on the drain plug magnet, and also on the driver side ABS magnet. It looks like silver anti-seize paste in texture but I suppose it's from something getting worn down inside the diff. If the bearings are wobbly I assume the splines on the end of the shafts have worn down (or the gears inside of the diff, not sure which are harder?).
I was wondering if there are specs so I can measure the splines and decide if I should buy new shafts before getting new bearings pressed?
There was also some "slop" when I turned the wheels before I took it apart which I think contributed to the slight clunk I have when going in to D, stop lights etc. which greasing the driveshaft didn't do much for. There was a bit of movement before it engaged when I turned the tire. Not sure if that was normal.
