Hey guys,

i got a question.

is your 99-02 back window switch illuminated when the head lights are turned on?

Because I notice mine was dark last night after making a run to target..

If it is, how do I change the bulb out?

In my 01 it lights up, But yeah those bulbs are kind of a pain maybe someone will chime in on the LED replacement thread but basically you gotta pull your consol out (easy part) and pop that strip out and then unscrew it to get easy access to the bulb. Be careful not to lose the buttons and the pieces inside the strip. It actually not that hard it can get frustrating though

Ya it does light up. My 01 was out and just wanted a replacement bulb. So I went to Toyota and you have to buy the whole rear window switch just to get the bulb. So I just bought a green colored LED to replace the burned out bulb. Its a shade of green off from the other bulbs but it beats buying a whole window switch (about 43.00 my cost,Don't know what list is) just to get a bulb.

I have taken out the console before.. it shouldn't be that bad..

would you guys know what size of bulb is it?

Mine lights up but for a while it stopped and one day i hit the switch and it magically turned on again... now im having the same prob with the a/c directional control.
 
Mine doesn't light up, I thought it wasn't supposed to :sobbing: Oh well...

Not to hijack, my question is related to the back window as well--has anyone figured a mod to enable the window button on the keyless remote to RAISE the window? It's nice that you can lower it with the button, but it's a pain that you then have to go inside the truck, turn the ignition on and then raise the window with the switch on the dash. Would be so much easier if the remote did both :bluejump:
 
The raise the window from the remote would be great.


Another question about lights....are the window up/down buttons on the interior door panel supposed to light up?

You dont have to turn on the ignition to roll up the back window. Just place the key into the back hatch. Turn and hold it to the right and the window will roll up. Turn and hold to the left and the window will go down.

Not as nice as a remote, but hey at least you don't have to turn on the truck anymore :P

The "AUTO" is supposed to light up.
 
Okay, I got the bulb out and had ran from side of town to the other and still no luck..

I tried napa, car quest, Ford and GM Dealer, Osh and Home Depot.. still no luck..

I'm going to hit the dealership in about 30 minutes and hope they have one..

On a side note, does anyone know if the ECT and the rear Defoster illumnates when the head lights are turned up?

also, any one know the led bulb size for it?

I believe that bulb is a "neo wedge A". Take a look at autolumination to see if that's the right size. The dimensions are provided too just to make sure. Don't get the LED type if you want it to match though. Also, you can replace a tall neo wedge bulb with a short one and it will not make a difference (just an FYI).

Piperoo: The "auto" for just the driver side window on the master switch lights up and the "auto" on the passenger side window switch lights up. I pulled apart the switch to see if I had lights out, but it just has a single LED for the master switch and a single LED for the passenger side switch.

Well.

I ended up not going to the stealership..

I tried playing with it again tonight and still no dice..

I tried getting a few pictures up..

before I opened up the car this afternoon, the ECT and rear defroster illuminated but now, I have nothing on all 3... could it be both bulbs went out?

I got the LED from "SuperBrightLEDs".
I ordered NeoWedge series LED Lamp 3mm bulb in green. I doesn't fit all the way down the hole in the switch, so I had to shave some of the LED plastic base so it would fit all the way into the socket. Kinda a pain in the A** but beats buying a whole switch from Toyota.

To answer your second ?, Yes the ECT and Defrost light up as well, they share the same bulb. That bulb you can buy separate from the dealer. Just look to the left of teh rear window switch in the back of the center console. You will see another twist bulb.
 
my other bulb also went out after flickering with it this afternoon.. Saturday night when I notice it went out, the ect and defroster worked but now nothing..

How can I remove the second bulb? I twisted it but it won't come out like the other one does..

Twist it out and it should come out. You might need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out after you twist. If I remember, it was sort of in a little hole so you need something to pull it out with.

but that other one is a *****.

Did you put some kind of tape on the end and pull out or ?

No, no tape, just a pair of needle nose pliers. Twisted and then just pulled out.
