Backordered OEM Parts

After owning my '14 SR5 for 2 months, I was t-boned by a deer on April 26th. It hit the passenger side hard enough to deploy the curtain airbags and the passenger seat airbags as well. Turned in a claim to my insurance for it on April 28 and I still have not gotten my vehicle back.

The exterior is fixed and ready, however the headliner, airbags, and seat cover are all still on backorder. They are supposed to provide my repairman an update on June 5th but this will be right at 6 weeks without my 4Runner. Their reasoning is because it's a newer model vehicle.

I was just wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this kind of delay in getting parts in?

Not only is it a new vehicle but it is manufactured in Japan. This is normal and I'm surprised only 6 weeks. You could be looking at 12-16 weeks and that would still not be abnormal.

Wow, shows how much I know. The only other time I've been in this situation was last year with my '06 Tacoma. Another deer incident but it was fixed with aftermarket parts. Had it back in a week.

Taco = Texas or Cali and they have been around for a long time so lots of parts. 4Runner=Japan and '14's are brand new. Not many unique parts here yet.

Oh ok, thanks for the explanation. I'm moreso just reallllly missing my Runner. I've about forgotten everything about it. It will be like getting a new vehicle once I do get it back. And the miles have been kept low, so there's that.

That sucks huge deer balls, man. Mine got swiped by a commercial truck and I lost it for slightly over a week. I was so amped to get it back.

Good luck with getting it fixed sooner.

Yes sir it does. Adding insult to injury was the hideous, powerless, gold-colored '14 Jeep Cherokee rental my insurance provided. The 30 day coverage for it is up though so my father was kind enough to lend me his '07 Sequoia.

FYI insurance companies traditionally limit rental coverage to 30 days when you lose the use of your vehicle. However the additional charge to upgrade your policy to 60 or 90 days is very reasonable.

I don't remember the exact details but I think it was only about $30. per year for the additional coverage. After a couple of weeks shuttling the better half back and forth to work every day, believe me you'll be willing to pay that and more....;^)
