This may be another option. If you have the rear view mirror monitor, you could replace the rear view mirror to one like mine, which has an on/off switch built in. Then change the power install from the peg of the reverse switch to a peg that has constant power once you turn on the ignition.
The rear view camera comes on every time the engine starts, but then you simply hit the mirror button to turn it off. Then, while the engine is running, you can turn the camera on/off at any time. (No need to be in reverse).
So just two things. New rear view mirror. Re-install the power cord. Pretty easy. See below for the mirror I used.
The rear view mirror sale.
The item I bought is from Rostra Precision Inst. Inc. Model 250-8804 (Slim line 3.5 monitor)

I talked to Thomas in Tech Support, 1-800-732-4744 At Rostra. He told me this is the same kit that is sold to SE Toyota at the Port of Call, except this has the 3.5 inch screen vs the 2.4 inch screen Toyota uses, but everything else is the same.
Thomas recommended I call Brandon Disturbing, who is the sole distributer of Rostra Product. Contact “Joe” at Brandon, 1- 877-402-3944. I did so, and he sold me this kit for 471.15 plus shipping. The dealer quoted me 665.00 for the same kit, using the 2.4 inch screen vs the 3.5.
Lakeland Toyota Quoted me 189.00 to install THEIR kit. I called him back and asked him if it is the same cost if I bring in my own kit, the only difference being the mirror has a bigger monitor. He said yes, if after his installer looks at it and confirms all the same.
