Backup Camera Modification

Did the camera mod. on my 2010 SR5 to turn on at any time I want and in any gear while I'm driving. Not too bad a job. Just tap into the group of three wires on the left (red,blue,white) under the cover above the mirror (Blue wire is 12V+). Tap into the blue wire (do not cut)and then cut and splice into the red wire. I used a 3 post switch. Note: when I was done the Check engine light was on . Only had to disconnect the battery cables for a couple of minutes to reset. The switch in one position acts as the camera always has (only comes on when in reverse) but when I flip the swith it comes on in any gear selected moving or stopped as long as the key is on. Now I can check on my motorcycle trailer while I am driving!arty:
I just installed a new Rear View Camera from the same company that supplies Toyota Distributorship's with the cameras at the port. Only instead of getting the Gentex 2.5 mirror screen, I ordered the 3.5 inch one. The rest of the kit is the same. The company is Rostra Precision Inst. Inc. Model 250-8804 (Slim line 3.5 monitor) Rostra Precision Controls | Aftermarket Cruise Control Home Up until just a few months ago, Rostra used "Gentex" mirrors in their kits. Now, they are using a company by the name of "Dunnin" or "Duncan" or something like that. Anyways, this particular mirror comes with a "Reverse Override", which is nothing more then an on and off switch. It was also seemingly wired the same as how Sporty 87 described in his post. To that end, I tapped the same two wires (only I did so at the wiring block under the dash) and I got almost the same results without having to add a switch! I turn the key, the camera comes on even in park. I turn off the mirror with the switch on the mirror, it never comes on again until I want it too, and it turns on not matter which gear I am in!
I like that it comes on when I first turn on the ignition allowing me to get a look behind the tail-gate BEFORE I put it in gear.....but I especially like that I can turn it on in any gear at any time (as long as the Key is on at least in the Acc Mode.) for the same reason stated above and other reasons. There's a diagram at the end. This mod is awesome to check on your bikes or to see how close the jackass behind you is. Also if you're connecting a boat or using your hitch.

Yea, that mod you point too is cool, but neither Sporty 87 nor myself have a nav system. This mod was for the rear view mirror cam.

Ok, sounds good to me. But understand, I'm not trying to take anything away from anybody, I was just adding to the mod. All of them, Speedball, Antman, Sporty87 added an extra switch and did the wiring change. All I am saying is by getting this particular mirror, no need for an extra switch and it works pretty much the same!
