Here's how it works: Yes, you have two choices: Have your insurance handle the claim, or have Travellers handle the claim.
If you want your car fixed fast, go with your insurance. Yes you'll have to shell out the deductible on your collision upfront, and whatever Geico doesn't cover on a rental car. You'll get these out-of-pocket expenses back in 4-6 months when the insurance companies settle up.
If you don't want to pay anything up front, you have no choice but to let Traveller's handle the claim. The down side of dealing with the other insurance company is that they will not act very fast to get your car fixed (remember, insurance companies make money by playing the market; the longer they can keep from paying out, they more interest and dividends they make). Now that you got the police report back, you can pressure them to make it right.
If you don't have Medical Payments with Geico, your best bet is to go with Traveller's...
BTW, looking at your pictures, your front end looks whacked and the frame may be bent. I'd lay even odds there's enough damage that they'll total the vehicle...

I agree, after seeing the pictures it definately looks totalled. You've got damaged drivetrain and suspension on the front, bent frame very likely, two doors, hood, fender, wheel, new air bags, both a and b pillars need to be cut out and replaced....

Just be thankful you are ok, 4Runners can be replaced. To add my advice to others here Lin: Go to your own doctor and get a complete physical, tests, etc., just to make sure. Report the accident to your insurance company with a copy of the police report, and then ask around (friends, family, etc) for a good accident lawyer. Go to see that lawyer!!! "A person who acts as his own lawyer has a fool for a client". Once again I'm glad you're ok and walked away from this one. This is not a day for sadness. You're alive and well my friend, and that's all that counts.

Anyway once again I'm glad all of You are OK. However your truck looks terrible. I only hope and at the same time wish You insurance company will replace this one with a new one because I don't think it would be fun to drive this car after it is repaired.

Hey if they total it, you can wait and buy a 2005. You can get the new V8 with VVTI or the V6 with a 5speed. I guess that's a silver lining to this story???

im sorry to hear and see what happened to you and your car, lin. good thing nothing bad or worst that couldve happened to you and the other family. you could always buy a new T4R, but never a life. Looks like God was able to watch over you when that happened. Be careful always to you and to all here, we could never be safer(well at least we drive SUV's

Linhsy, glad you are taking this well. Those pics are scary. With the damage + airbags, I think your truck will be totalled. You should work with Travelers Insurance, and consult with a lawyer. Travelers represents the other driver's interest and their interest. You need someone to represent YOUR interests. I hope everything works out!

Many times the insurance assessment of the damage will only reflect what they are willing to pay, not the true amount to repair the damage or replace the vehicle. Since you are not at fault, Travelers (and Geico) should honor your decision (if the truck is repairable) to have the repairs done at the shop of your choice, not theirs.

I can understand where people are saying consult a lawyer on how to go about the claim to get his vehicle replaced, but as for obtaining a lawyer to do that, that is expensive.
The only way I would obtain a lawyer is if that Lin is seriously hurt and will be out of commission for awhile. That is wht I mentioned to get back to the Doc's and have them rn a Cat/MRI to check for any soft tissue damage. If Lin gets better is a few weeks and is not permantly injured or does not require surgery from the accident (which would be a law suit based on pain/suffering and loss of future), obtaining a lawyer is worthless I think. As long as you are pain free, that is all that matters.
But Lin, if you do not get better and you are still having problems a couple months down the line, I would look into this if you care to go that route.
From what I am reading on here, glad no one is out make money off of peoples mistakes (within reason, seems there are a lot of frivilous lawsuits). I am just glad you are ok, all that matters.
Plus, from these pictures I am really thinking about ordering my 4Runner with Seat/Side Air Bags for extra protection. it seems they helped out.
