Baja ladder install fitment issues - help

Ladder rub

The same exact issue I have going on with my ladder. Definitely a hard area to reach for touching up, and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle fixing this issue yet.

Thanks for the pics and replies guys, it's unfortunate that these ladders rub however it looks like a minor tweak in the manufacturing process would take care of it.

debating gobi or the baja. this seems like a much better buy.

would you current owners go this route again or go gobi?

I would definitely stick with my Baja. Aside from the rub that I am now aware of and can fix with time an a file, I still like the look better. A ladder is a ladder either way, so I mean, how much is there really to say about it.

I did add skateboard tape to the rungs though but that is because as rumors have it, winter will approach soon enough and I don't need that issue.

Absolutely would go Baja over Gobi. Both have terrible lead times and neither actually give realistic expectations about the time, so just know that going into it. I personally like the look of the Baja ladder more. I think it compliments the lines of the 4Runner better. The ladder itself and the means by how the ladder attaches to the hatch are also extremely well done. I use it as one end of a place to hang a hammock and no issues!

Gads... when I first read this, I thought "Wow, a 4Runner has a BLADDER? I didn't see that in the owner's manual."

I talked to Luis today at Baja and he says the latest ladders have been modified to address the rubbing issue. Specifically the top corners have been shaved down.

After further review of the pictures, and sending a few to Baja, they say that the current design (with the corners cut off) is good. They say it is an installation issue.
The tip was to pull the ladder back all the way prior to tightening the lower clamp. Just an FYI. The service dept. has excellent communication.

I know this is not nearly as important as "what vehicle should I buy" or "I drive a lot and keep having to buy gas" threads but hopefully it helps someone.

I have to disagree, respectfully. The communication from BR has been less than stellar. This is clearly a manufacturing issue, even with the new design. I have several emails out to Bajarack, dating back to June, with no response, except for "installation error". I re-installed 3 times, and the inboard corner continues to protrude. I really wouldn't be upset, except for the fact that the ladder damaged the hatch paint and dented the hatch frame from rubbing. I really didn't want to come on the forum with this issue, but I requested to return the ladder and have received no response. So it sits in the box in the garage and I am sad. Buyers beware.

That’s good to know, thank you for the feedback. The possibility of damaging my hatch was enough for me to hold off for now. Now that you are bringing this to light...I’m out.

Thanks for letting us know this tidbit. Mine seems to move when subjected to miles of washboard; causing the rubbing. A firm yank back to seat it onto the rear hatch has, for now, fixed the issue. I may try re-installing it before my next Baja trip and see if indeed it wasn't firmly attached on the initial install.

Weight limits

The only concern I have about the Baja vs the Gobi is that the Baja's max weight capacity is only 200lbs. vs the Gobi's 250lbs. Anyone else have any concerns regarding this?
