Ball Joint and Latteral tie rod wear

Hi, i recently took my 1991 4runner in for a tire rotation etc. when they rotated the front tires they said that my front end ball joints and tie rods (basic front end steering setup) was worn out and it would be a $1000 to replace.

wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, and if they could tell me some signs they noticed before hand (e.g loose sterring etc.)

I just got my tires replaced on my 86, the passenger side front was worn on the inside, badly. My steering wheel isn't pointing straight to go straight, and I'm sure there is a toe out situation. I doubt, you need to spend $1,000. There is adjustments that can be made. A wheel alignment place once told me I needed new shocks to do a correct alignment on my old Mazda, I found out later that wasn't true, just a turn of the strut on the strut tower would adjust the angle of the camber. I haven't gone into the adjustments on the 4runner but I know mine has a CAM bolts on the bottom arm that are for adjusting something. I'll let you know more as I find out.

1000 bucks seems a lil outragous to me since you can get both the upper ball joints, both the lower ball joints and the inner and outer tie rod ends for both sides with a lifetime warrenty from autozone for less than 200 but thats why i do my own work to my stuff because shops want outragous amounts of money to do jobs
