Bandit Runner's Build Thread

Just out of curiosity do you top off your gas tank often?

I do. I blame it on my OCD. I have to stop on an even dollar! But you are right, I will try not to do that anymore. Thanks for the reminder.

Did you do any testing to verify that the charcoal canister was damaged/cracked or if any of the components on the canister (hoses, vent valve, etc) were damaged?

I have a P0440 code that came back & trying to narrow down where to start troubleshooting first.

Glad I saw your post on this.

I did not do any testing. I did look the old one over, but did not see any cracks or anything. All the hoses looked good too. I'm hoping the new canister will fix my problem. Good luck with figuring yours out.

Then recently, I saw that NotKewl was selling a used charcoal canister off his ’02. I contacted him, and he was super helpful in answering all my questions. He was great to work with, and we made a good deal. He even went out of his way, and sent me the pages from the Toyota service manual on how to install it.

Glad it worked out for you!

Ordered some parts from Russia a few months ago. These finally came in today:

I've got BIG plans for these:
- Dual HID projectors
- Replace plastic lens with glass
- Custom shrouds
- New LED halos (green)
- Color changing demon eyes

Not sure if I'm going to use the corner lights yet or not. I might put them up for sale.

Those are pretty cool looking. Are you sure you don't have any of John Podesta's emails in with your Russian papers? I can see the headlines now..."disguised as a 3rd Gen owner, alias "Bandit Runner" under investigation for..."

I'm interested to see what you do with those lights.

Remember these being talked about a long time ago. One other person got them and thought it was a real pain to get and quality was low (housing part). How was the transaction and whays your opinion on quality?

Great question. I haven't spent a lot of time with them yet, basically just unpacked them. From what I have seen so far, they don't look too bad. Definitely not OEM quality, but not total Chinese junk either.

The plastic lenses are better than I expected. One thing I did notice is that there is some dust and smudges on the inside of the lenses. They should have been cleaned better before being assembled.

I'll know more, once I open them up.

As far as the transaction, it was fine. It does take a while (about 6 weeks) to get them, but I expected that. The seller provided an estimated arrival date range, and they came in on the early end of that range. They were packaged quite well also, inside individual plastic bags and all the lenses had protective plastic film over them to prevent scratches. So really no issues there.

Those are pretty sweet looking. I have been watching the thread. I'm really curious as with most after market items if the housing is a perfect fit. I had a bad experience with after market tail lights cause the bracket did not line up cleanly with the holes in the body. Keep us posted and if there are issues please do share.

Again amazing working and I am loving following along.

Spent some time taking apart the aftermarket lights. Got one of them disassembled successfully without breaking anything:

This is the main part that I was after:

You can see how it is set up to fit two projectors side by side, unlike the OEM housing.

Also after a lot of research, I think i've decided which projectors to use in these. The main projectors are going to be the new Morimoto D2S 4.0 version with 3" lens. These will be bi-xenon for low beam and high beam, and run off 35 watt ballasts. The second set of projectors will be on for high beam only. They will be the Morimoto 4TL-R projectors with 2.5" lens, and run off 50 watt ballasts.

Just waiting for a good sale to start purchasing parts.

JFYI....at least on my 99....you couldn't see the cracks. I JB welded the entire box around all the seams and got rid of the code that way. I overfill like a madman....usually 2 gallons or so past the first click....but, supposedly, my model isn't as susceptible to problems as the ones that have the canister close to the tank (mine's under the hood).

My wife surprised me today with a front set of Weathertech floor mats.

I always wanted a set of these. They are awesome!

Thanks Honey Bunny!

And I thought it couldn't get any better...

What is the one big item my build still needs? A supercharger of course!

Well not anymore. I just ordered one! URD has them on sale for $2660 with free shipping. Best price I've seen.

Even more envious than before. It's a good thing we don't live close to each other, my rig would 'wimper' every time it was near yours:embarassed:

Seriously though...congrats that is awesome. No problem pushing those 35's now:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Happy Thanksgiving Jeremy

Damn man.
Great work on making everything look like it was made to be that way, or "go there".
Your execution is flawless [emoji1362]
I'm looking forward to seeing those new led panels lit up!
