Bass Settings

What's up everybody? I just installed my new Alpine head unit and I had a few questions about exactly what some of the bass settings do.

On this particular head unit, I can pick from pretty much endless settings. Bass bandwidth, bass frequency, the actual base level itself, and Alpine's BBE feature.

But I wanted to find someone who could give a pretty good explanation on what exactly adjusting the base frequency(60-80-100-120Hz) and the bass bandwidth(.50-.75-1.00-1.25) actually does as I change from each interval. From what I've heard 80Hz is the best frequency and I know that the bandwidth controls the range of the bass, but I just wanted a second opinion from a knowledgeable crowd.

I have two twelves and component speakers...I'm looking for a nice clean loud bass.

I don't know much about the bass bandwidth... but the frequency, you're right, is best around 80hz. i have a filter on mine and i find that 80 is the best compromise.

What you get with the low setting, 50hz, is a full sound but your speakers won't hit as hard and it'll filter out a lot of the music (like the higher bass sounds... like whats found in hip hop). But its clean.

On the other end... the 120hz (or 150hz like I have), hits much harder but doesnt sound nearly as clean. It starts running non bass frequencies through your bass, not good. Also, what you find with this setting that is is much more noticable WHERE the bass is comming from. Obviously, you dont want all your mid and trebble up front and bass in back, you want it mixed together. Thats why a comprimise is best. For me i find 80hz is where i like it.

Thats just what i have found from experience. hope thats helps some. i guess you already knew about it... but like you asked for... just a second opinion!
