BE CAREFUL if you install wheel spacers

I have had my spidertraxx for more the 7 years. I have put them through some abuse, off and on, but always torqued with loctite.

Hand Torqued to 85lbs, and checked every time I rotate tires. I haven't had any issues on my 16' Tacoma. Just took them off when I installed Ray-10's.

I've run many wheels spacers in the past, I normally stay away from the low quality stuff. Spridertrax or Bora for me.

I'm thinking about putting a set of trd rims(PTR20-35110) on my 4runner. Would those sit more flush with the body or would I need spacers to achieve that? Either those or I'm also considering putting spacers on my aftermarket wheels and keeping them.

I just got a set of Spidertrax 1.25” spacers... I have the torque wrench, I have the red loctite, just want to make sure I’m doing it right.

The nuts that come on the spacer, with the angled/conical side facing inward, would go on first to hold the spacer on... snug to 90 (per spidertrax instructions)... Then the wheel... then the factory lug nuts.

Check spacer nuts after 50 miles by torquing them at 80 ft lb, if there’s ANY movement, start over

I feel confident but all these horror stories scare me.

That's correct. The only horror stories are from people either using the non-hubcentric spacers or not setting/checking the torque correctly. I've had Spidertrax spacers on my Tacoma for a while with zero issues. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

3 years with ebay hubcentric spacers that cost me 50 bucks for all 4. No problems.

Ive also been running wheel spacers for about 20 years now and ZERO issues. Ive only ran Spidertrax spacers and have always torqed to specs and rechecked. I cant remember hearing anything like this happening due to the spacers, always have been something else.
Bottom line is, you're ok, the 4runner can be replaced, you cant.

Installing a Spidertrax 1.25" set tomorrow. I'm going to torque to 90 ft lbs and draw a line with a paint pen across the spacer's lug and spacer body. I'll do a visual after 50-100 miles for any creep and again when I rotate the new tires I'm getting next week. I have complete faith in these things because I will do a very careful job. Which brings me to my questions:

I am probably going to use Discount (AKA America's) Tire in San Mateo County, CA - Does anyone know if that company is anti-spacer and how do I ensure that the tire tech doesn't over-torque and weaken the spacer's studs without being a helicopter customer? Also, do I even mention that I have spacers during the sale, and instead try to talk to the tech before the wheels go back on after balancing?

I'm sure it will be fine, but I'm busy over-thinking it..........eep:

I just took the spacers off my wheels in the back to grease the contact points on the shoes. I torqued the spacers down to 80 ft lbs, but didn't put loctite on them. Should I retorque them with loctite to 125 ft lbs?

You should apply red Loctite then torque them to the spacer manufacturer’s specs.

Scary stuff, I followed everything to a T as well. Correct torque specs, cleaned all contact points prior to installation. Had them on for 2 or 3 years and 20k miles. No issues at all. Occasional retorqueing but nothing has come loose

It problt wasn’t even your studs it’s could’ve been because you bought that specific branded spacers. When it comes to your life money don’t matter
