Beck Arnley Lower Ball Joints

I've searched the various threads about lower ball joint failures and the general view is to go for OEM toyota ball joints. My local Toyota dealer quoted me $165.00 each for lower Ball Joints...Pretty steep even though I'm in Canada.. I checked one of my local parts guys and they quoted me $70.00 each for the Beck Arnley LBJ's less than half price. I sent off an e-mail to Beck Arnley asking about the origin of their LBJ's and recieved this back.


Thank you for your interest in Beck/Arnley. We do carry the lower left and lower right ball joints for your vehicle. I have listed the part numbers below. Both of these parts country of origin is Japan. We do not sell our products to the general public. In order to purchase our products you must go through one of our distributors. I have listed some of them below. As far as warranty goes, that would be done through the original place of purchase and we support our channel partners in the warranties that they hold for our products.

So my question is if they are from Japan can I assume that they are similar quality to the OEM Toyota's? Anyone have any experience with the Beck Arnley's ? I couldn't find anything specific about them on the net.

You know what happens when assume don't you? And stuff goes breaky faster. Stick with OEM LBJ's, then NAPA Premiums, and then back to OEM.

As you already know, LBJ failure is well documented AND the recommendation is to always use OEM Toyota LBJ's. I have to ask, Why consider anything else? You can get them cheaper online from camelbacktoyota.com

Toyota OE ONLY!!!

All aftermarket LBJs wear out faster. I had the best aftermarket ones and they were loose after 20,000 miles.

I know of some 4runners that have been totaled after a LBJ failure.

Is it worth saving a few bucks?
 
Ok Ok..you guys have me convinced!! I've got a mail box in blaine wa. that I can get stuff shipped to who do you recommend for the best prices including shipping for OEM toyota ball joints? The camelback sire doesn't seem to be working at least not for me today, anyone else? thanks again

You will want to double check the part numbers. I believe it is about $77 for each ball joint. Free shipping. No tax.
 
Toyota OEM is the only way to go IMO, I read threads for days about LBJs and failures before I did mine. The OEM cost a little more but I think it's worth it for the piece of mind.

Just think about it yourself, to sell the LBJ at a lower price than OEM (or rather the cheapest OEM you can find on the web, so that you negate the dealer mark-up), you HAVE to cut corners somewhere. Raw materials are almost guaranteed to be one of those cut corners, heat treatment, surface finish, etc. will also probably lose out.

That said, those 3 characteristics are especially important on the 4runner LBJ because Toyota put the ball joint in tension, so failure is catastrophic. It is a bad design, and they fixed it for subsequent vehicle generations.

That is the short reason to stick with OEM.
 
Forgot to mention I purchased the lbj bolts separately. You will need a total of 8 for both lbj. They run about 77 cents each.
 
I ordered Beck Arnley ones and sent them back immediately. I was not happy with the quality and the way the joint moved in the socket. I ended up reordering OEM ones. Stick with Toyota OEM lower ball joints.
