Being followed

About 2 and a half weeks ago my wife was followed on her way home from work. She was the last one to leave the building and the car that was following her pulled out of a alley that was rarely used. She took around five turns and the car kept following her, she finally lost them when she got on a main road. Tuesday night she was leaving work and she took a different route home, by chance she got behind the car that followed her before, a dodge magnum. So Tuesday night she filed a police report, she gave the police the plate number, the results were that the dodge belonged to a 106 year old deceased male, and that the usual information that should be there was not there "data points were missing" the police officer said that the car was part of a state or federal investigation and that he would try investigating the address tied with the plate which he said sounded like a business address. I am starting to get worried about this and if there are any police officers on the forum it would be nice to know what is going on.

UH... I would be driving my wife to and from work for awhile! I hope they have a conceal carry law or at least a law where you can carry in your vehicle ...cause I would!!! Actually I have a conceal carry permit and carry ALL the time.

I've always instructed my wife if she is ever being followed to drive straight to a police station and NEVER home!

I hope they nail that guy!!!!

Drive to the nearest police station or the most populated area as possible. i.e. in front of walmart. Only go where the bad guys thing that its not worth it.

Also, don't take the law into your own hands. Drive her to and from work, and carry a digital camera if you can.

I wasn't implying that! I was merely suggesting him to protect himself and his wife if the idiot tried to do something rash. I believe in protecting yourself! You certainly can't expect the police to show up in time to stop him if he tries something. Obviously first response it to get out of there...second defend yourself if the threat continues and escalates and you can't leave the area/scene. If I can't escape and he continues his attack I have no reservations in removing scum like this guy from society!

If she suspects being followed again I would have her call 911 while she is on her way to the police station so they know she's coming! Otherwise if she goes to Walmart and he doesn't take off she has no out. And DEFINITELY don't have her park and get out and run into walmart! She'll be nabbed before she even makes it in. He might even try to hit her vehicle in hopes she'll stop and exchange insurance information. I would have her go straight to the nearest police station while they are on the phone!

I would certainly drive her to work for awhile. If she continues to drive herself and sees the same car call the police immediately!

Im just not exactly sure what this guy wants! She just got a new Rav4 so maybe that, shes been having a lot of trouble at work with her staff, AND the police said that this car was involved in a federal or state investigation and they couldn't help us any more.

Not to my knowledge, shes a works with schools and I work at the U of A.

Next time, your wife should just drive to the closest police station. Is it possible for you to follow your wife home in another car to get more information on this person?

Best of luck to you,, Just keep your wits about you. Next time it happens it may be possible to have her purposely not lose the guy and then call the cops while he is tailing her. They could possibly pull him over for some questioning.

This doesn't sound like a recurring issue, just that one time, right? I wouldn't get all bent out of shape unless the person did this on a regular basis or followed her all the way home. It's very possible the person was lost or was following the wrong car by accident.

As far as the police report, there are two ways to look at it. One is the car is suspicious, the other is the car is being used by officers (state or fed) in an investigation. I would be leaning towards the latter because if they suspected some criminal activity, they would be impounding it soon.

This happened to my wife. The police kept her on the phone and directed her to drive this guy into a trap they set for him with three cars. I'm proud of her that she did this and the guy had to be an idiot to keep following her after she was talking on the cell phone. BTW all she did was beep at him for waiting at a green for a long time, trust me, it must have been because she is not an aggressive driver. They did charge him with two crimes (I forget what they were)

I kind of agree with CNI. Time to file a report with the State Police. They have more power than the local police. Ultimately if there is some type of Federal investigation they will know about it. Also if your wife was the subject they were following I doubt they would tell you that the car was invovled in a investigation...unless your local cops are a little slow.

Maybe have her let you know her location next time and you can follow the perpetrator and get more details about the creep.

I usually keep an eye out on surrounding cars around me about a mile before I get to my house just to be sure that I'm not being followed. If I'm followed, I'll call up a few folks to meet at rendezvous point and drive there. It never gotten this far... so I can't tell you what's next.

Sorry, I just had to. On a serious note, I'd have her try to change her work hours to an earlier time. That way it'll be safer for her to get to her car at the end of the shift.

Swimmer, any updates?
There was some good advice in the posts. IMO I think calling the police and leading the person into a trap is the best thing to do. I wish I had thought that.

About 10 years ago (in college) I had some guys follow me from a bar. As I drove around, trying to avoid stopping at lights and such, I thought about my options as I drove. I too carry but I would never do anything unless it was the absolute last option. We all know the rule, if you pull out you better shoot it. I thought for a second it could be two under cover cops trying to bust me for a DWI/DUI, but I had not been drinking. So jumping out of the car and brandishing the weapon to scare them off or worse shooting at the guys in the vehicle could have been a bad idea, I could have been shot, plus when you shoot some one mental issues usually come later in life. Not to mention the police will take your firearm and the chances of you using one again are slim. As I kept driving I decided to call my buddies and have them wait out in front of their house for me when I pulled up. So like all good college buddies they were all too drunk or busy chasing women. The vehicle eventually quit following me after about 20 minutes. I should have called the cops, but I did not think of that. It is freaky to have people follow you no matter what their intentions are.
