Best 2UZFE Timing Belt Kit

There may already be a thread on this but I can't find anything. Please let me know if someone knows of one.

I will be replacing the timing belt and water pump and many other things while I am in there. TB kits are all over Amazon, Ebay, and Rockauto. Many of them claim to be OEM, but I would like to know if there is one anyone can recommend to me. Toyota doesn't sell a kit and sells everything individually. Price isn't a huge issue for me since I will be saving money by doing it myself and am planning on keeping the vehicle for a long time but I'd prefer to spend lees than $400. I want quality. No cheap chinese parts!

I would also like to add that I am doing this because I don't know for sure if it has been done. The previous owner stated it was done as 120k but everything looks untouched and there is no label.

A lot of people here go with the Aisin kit. I think it's part number TKT021. That's what I used, and all the parts are good quality. Aisin is 30% owned by Toyota, and it's one of their suppliers for OEM parts like the water pump.

I always get Toyota Genuine on something that important. I don't really know enough about the OEM "equivalent" kits so I go with what I know. I personally use Sunnysidepartsbarn.com.

you want koyo tensioners, Aisin water pump, and a Mitsuboshi Timing Belt. Those are all OEM. As far as drive belt, they give you a bando, but maybe if you find a kit with Gates that'd be good to. (Hear good things about them) I also purchased upper and lower radiator hoses from gates, and purchased Toyota OEM coolant from the dealership.

I probably won't do the radiator hoses since they were done at 120k which I was given a receipt for.

Toyota dealer one town over from me puts together nice kits on fleabay for all OEM parts. Prices are okay, you might be able to call and get a discount, I'd recommend them.

Wish they included the pulleys. I could just order them separate but then I risk ordering the wrong part.

I just finished with this project and I also use the TKT021 plus I picked up an OEM T-stat+gasket/O ring for the same from Amazon as well. This kit is complete so it's a one stop shop for less than $200.

As an aside, my radiator had couple of leaks and the shop said that it might not be worth repairing. Apparently, after removing the side tanks, there's no guarantee that the new O ring/gasket will seal up tight again. So I just bought a new one for $170 out the door. FYI.

I also replaced the thermostat, thermostat O-ring, serpentine belt, radiator (I think leaning on it opened up a leak), and transmission fluid (since some is lost replacing the radiator).

On the second timing belt change you should consider replacing the crankshaft seal and cam shaft seals, but I think the consensus is it's a pain to do, and they will usually last about 180,000 miles. The kit you linked to has those seals, but if you don't need them just get the Aisin TKT021 since it's cheaper. This is the one I ordered, and it's available from several places including Rock Auto.

I didn't replace any of the pulleys or anything for the serpentine belt, but those are easy to get to later, and they looked OK besides being dirty.

The radiator is made of plastic tanks crimped to aluminum, presumably with a seal in between. Aluminum doesn't like to be bent more than once or twice, so I doubt you could get a good crimp on it the second time without breaking some of the aluminum. Plus, I have no idea if it takes a special tool to crimp it. Leaks around the side tanks seem to be common, and unfortunately I think the best thing is to just replace it and let the factory that makes the new one do the work of sealing the tanks.

I probably won't do the camshaft and crankshaft seals. I just looked up how to do it and it is a lot more work. The radiator was replaced 25K miles ago so I think I should be fine keeping it.

What are the brown things in this photo? Are they the cam and crank seals?

That's where you use the JB Weld, there's actually a small trough to bead it into.

They have other kit options for completeness but also include the cam/crank seals, accessory belt, etc. I'd just call them and say I want ebay number (full kit) minus this this and this, what would that cost me. They'd do it for you easily.

That's where you use the JB Weld, there's actually a small trough to bead it into.

DO NOT USE JB WELD! Permatex fipg. I used water pump and thermostat, others have just used ultra grey/black. Either way. NOT JB WELD.

You're correct, those are crank + cam seals. I wanted to do mine as well, until I figured that's a shit ton more work and they're bone dry as of 318xxx miles. I figured, if they aren't leaking now, I'll wait until the engine rebuild. It was a huge struggle for me not to do them but i left well enough alone.

Technically there isn't a gasket for this part. FSM said to use FIPG into the mirror part, there's a groove for the FIPG. But, the Ebay listing does show a gasket for this area and it should work out fine as well. The Amazon kit doesn't show this gasket.

The water pump doesn't need any FIPG or goop of any kind. There wasn't any from the factory and no need to add any. The supplied water pump metal gasket with rubber is plenty sufficient. This isn't a domestic engine, tolerances are very tight in this engine.
