The water pump doesn't need any FIPG or goop of any kind. There wasn't any from the factory and no need to add any. The supplied water pump metal gasket with rubber is plenty sufficient. This isn't a domestic engine, tolerances are very tight in this engine.
This is correct. However, the water bypass (or whatever they call it) that the thermostat housing is hooked to does need it. Take a look at the FSM. And: unless you've figured out a way to remove the water pump without removing the things connected to it, you will need to put it on there. Also, grab a new O-ring for the bypass while you're at it. These 2 spots are very prone to leaks after the water pump replacement... just look around the forum, and a thousand examples will pop-up.
