Best Cold Air Intake?

Cold air intake

I would only go with dry filters that being said AEM and Volant are buy far the best! I would personally go with the volant with the power core filter !!!!!!!!!!!! volant is also a seal box. check out there website. I call them they have alot of stuff that is not on there website yet. while your at it do the air elbow mod.

Expensive intakes on 4Runners are pretty much for looks when cutting a hole in the airbox nets you nearly the same whp gain but if it's worth it to spend a couple hundred more for whenthe hood is open then that's good too.


I did the deckplate since it was only $12 plus a piece of screen door material to keep larger debris from the filter plus I have a couple hundred for a useful mod like sliders which might be on by summer.


Will you notice a power increase or gas mileage improvement from either? Not likely but both make a louder whoosh sound when at WOT and that's pretty cool.

if no one has thought of this (which i doubt) dont steal my idea. if you do i get it for free okl? haha anyway this is for all the scoops out there. Has anyone made the scoop on the sport model functional? ram air = more power? that would be purty neat!!

It's been discussed before and nobody has been able to make it functional.

A wierd thing happened though. the filter comes blue and after a couple months it changed to grey so ya kinda crazy. here is a pic its kinda hard to see it, cause i was doing a before and after set but its the only one ive got haha

i dont think so, cause i took it off and some what cleaned it with water and nothing happeded. so i spray painted it blue again...:biggrin2: just kidding. speaking of cleaning can you use the k&n cleaner for the volant filter? im baffled of how to clean/reoil a filter, but than again someone above mentioned the volant filter being a dry flow. haha so ya, i wouldnt even know what soap to use. any easy to find options other than the stuff they have online? thanks!
 
air filters

I would defiantly stay away from anything that is oiled!!!!!!!!! also go with a sealed box. That being said if you want to save some money and still want some performance and can sacrifice some looks then do this. keep your stock air filter box- get a dry flow filter from AFE part #
( 80295931028 ) for 46.76. this filter is a direct replacement for the factory drop in paper filter then do the deck plate mod and air elbow mod. deck plate mod 12.00 dollars give or take. then get rid of the intake silencer and either buy or make a tube to connect filter box to throttle body. if you choose to buy look at Airaid JR. usually about 100.00 bucks. 158.76 total. Or you could buy the volant and just replace there oiled filter with a AFE dry flow that would cost a lot more probably 300 give or take. but would look great! don't know if it would produce more or less power than all the mods listed above combined. The cheapest would be to buy one of the 40.00 dollar cold air intake kits off e-bay and put a AFE filter on it. this would be around 80.00 dollars give or take. problems with this is no brand name except filter and its a open filter. and quality of kit could be questionable the last thing you would want is a piece of chrome or paint to flake off and get sucked into your engine. these are the best options I have come up with.

This is my intake.
 
actually i dont know if this is average, but i read somwhere that people are getting around 200 to 250 miles per tank on their 3.4 liters. With the intake and exhaust i get 250 on bad gas cold weather etc. in the summer i useually get 320+ miles and thats with 85 octane ( if thats how its spelled) but even in the winter i useually average out at 280 miles per tank. i duno? but ya volant is a closed (sealed) box and im still researching a/b the filter if i have the power core or not. haha but ya i agree on the oil thing MAF sensors are not cheap.

haha oh i love the sound of my intake so i do slam it every once in a while. i useually go 5 over the speed limit. i drive mostly freeway driving goin about 70 mph. so i duno maybe its the elevation?? ill have to check but im pretty sure im at 220 and still a little over quarter tank left. ?? by the way clemson fan (off topic) i ordered some different rims and im gonna just try to get those trd center caps. ill post pics when i get them on.

edit: after tonight im at 270 miles with just under quarter tank left. is that about the same as everyone else?

no i got some of the grabber AT2's they looked pretty cool and they were pretty cheap. they'll be wrapped on some pro comps i found for a good deal. i paid 1200 for the set up installed with the warenty. hopefully everything comes next week. man it sucks this has taken so long. haha
