Best Lift for the Non-Offroader?

Hey Ya'll...........quick question/advice!!......

I'm looking to lift my '15 TEP to the typical 3". This is my daily driver and I'm not going off road. I simply like the look and feel of a lifted vehicle. I'm looking for something maintenance free and reliable. The Trail edition with KDSS is a very stiff ride and the roads around my town really suck so I'm hoping to also smooth out my ride. I've done quite a bit of reading from folks that lift their trucks for the purpose of needing extra clearance and all that good stuff for the trails but that's not for me. That being said, I don't want to go the cheap route of just putting some blocks in the factory suspension..........

I'm thinking of doing shocks and coils, but not as far as new UCA's. I guess my question is do you all think that a kit such as what I linked below will be ok without creating CV and UCA issues? Or should I go for something else since I have just a casual need for the lift?

3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner

Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks Ya'll

I did the FJ3-RCC kit fron Toytec it was like $350 (spacers up front and a taller spring out back). down the road when my stock shocks and struts start going ill do a full setup

Both suggestions so far are good. I just done know how much better the ride will be, if that's one of your primary requirements. I'll be interested in hearing what you decide to pick.

If I was going to put a spacer on only one end, I would rather it be the rear. Cheapest route I would agree with 4Surfin unless you wanted to just do spacers. For better ride, front springs would help instead of using the height adjustable positions of the 5100.

I think you will have to install new UCAs with a 3" lift. If not the caster angle will be low and highway driving will feel unstable.

I have the same kit on my truck and couldn't be happier, I also have light racing UCA but I got the raflo rear coils instead of superflex and it is 20% heavier spring rate than stock. If you have money why not get something nice for your truck and enjoy it every day plus if you need to go off road unexpectedly, you're already setup for it.

Thanks for the advice thus far guys!!

I want to do this the right way without going overboard.

I've read a lot of you all having setups with 3"/2" and 2.5"/1.5".........I'm just wondering, if I were to go with the Toytec Boss kit and kept the settings at 2"/1", could I get away with keeping the stock ACU's? Not sure if those are even notch settings on the Bilsteins, but just a thought!

Also, has anybody looked into or talked to an educated person from Toyota about what UCA's are on the TRD Pro? It runs a setup of 2.5"/2.0", or so says the online literature. Just wondering if they kept the arms the same between the Pro and the Trail.

Again, I just want a comfortable ride and the lifted look done right with no off-roading.

Thanks Ya'll

Several of us are running Bilstein 6112 front, and 5160 rear............

My setup, fronts set to forth ring which equals 2.5" lift, rear has Daystar 1.5" spacer. I was very impressed with the change in ride, less harsh and more controlled. IMO our vehicles (trucks/SUV's) should have been equipped with them from TOYOTA!

i have the Toytec boss kit in my garage. Gonna be installing next weekend. They have a threaded body so you can adjust them with a wrench. Going to keep the front at 2 1/2 inch so I don't have problem with cv joints. Also keeping stock uca. Had this kit on my tacoma and it rode better than stock. I don't have KDSS and mine is very soft riding.

Decided that I was going a bit overboard and just went with the ReadyLift 3"/2" leveling kit and 1.25" Spidertrax.

My Nitto G2's should be here tomorrow. Stock 265/70's.

This setup won't help the ride quality but it'll look nice!!

:hat:

just curious why you went with a Trail vs an SR5 or limited if you don't plan to go offroad? just curious not trying to bust balls.

it is nice to heave the option to go offroad if needed.
Also higher value than an SR5 (retained value down the road)
And that scoop is frigging awesome!

shocks/coils will always ride better than an incoil spacer

Been there and agree.

Had a 3/2 spacer lift; spring compressors suck, truck looked cool, rode bad.

Then changed to a 2" front & rear with 5100s from Sonoran, pre-assembled with Toyota Top plates.

Valid question, no worries. I liked the trail interior (black dash vs silver) and wanted KDSS. I drove an SR5 and it seemed way looser in the turns. Granted now I'm complaining about the stiff ride, lol, go figure. I really liked the hood scoop as well since I just came from a sport model Tacoma.

Plus, I trade about every 3 years and the trail will be worth more. I don't have a solid reason other than I saw it, liked it, and bought it!! Haha
