Best Tire for 2005 4Runner SR5 4X4

I am wondering from other owners what they feel is a good tire for the 4-Runner, one that will last at least 50,000. When I bought mine new, it had Michelin's on it, and I got 52,800 miles on the tires.

I then bought my 2nd set of tires, NOKIAN. I thought it was a great tire by the thread depth and the 50,000 mile warranty. I'm dissapointed in them because I have 30,000 on them, and I'm going to need new ones soon. All that deep tread is gone...and I did rotate them as recommended every 5,000.

My gut feeling is to go back to Michelin, but does anyone have any suggestions? I've had Bridgestone on a Toyota Truck I own and they seem to wear pretty well, but any suggestion would be appreciated.

If they have a 50,000 mile warranty and they've only made it to 30,000 why don't you just contact the company? I would definitely pursue trying to get them replaced for free unless you're dissatisfied with other aspects of their performance besides the durability.

I second this. LTX M/S 2's are worth the money.

i tried the tire warrranty thng with the factorry dunflops and they said tke it to a dunflop dealer, have them measure the tread that was left. and them they figure some kind of percentage of the miles that should be left on the tires. in the end i could gget less thatn $20 off per tire. not worth it. only tire i ever saw last 50,000 was michelin mhx4's? i had on a 04 camry

So far I like my LTX A/T2's. I got the LT version, load range E. They are relatively quiet and I don't consider them rough riding even at 40-45 PSI. The 265/70R17 fits with no rubbing. I haven't had them very long, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the recommendations. It is true about only getting a percentage per tire if the warranty mileage isn't met. I called my tire dealer and he said to bring it in and they'd measure. But I'd have to use that credit they gave me towards the same brand tire. No thanks. I will not buy Nokian again.

I like my Revo 2s. 21k on them now and I see no reason why they won't make 50k. Great grip in rain. Good in snow too. I run them at 40psi.

Also if you are running the factory size.. a 255/70/17 is 1/2 inch taller than the factory 265/65. But it is $40 cheaper per tire than the 265/70s. A least in the Revo 2s when I look at discount tire's website.

Revo 2s - 265/70 - $196/tire
Revo 2s - 255/70 -$156/tire

LTX A/T 2s - 265/65 - $ 220/tire
LTX A/T 2s - 265/70 - $198/tire

It is crazy the differance in price one size makes!!

Firestone Destination A/T would probably be 3rd!!

All 3 sizes fit factory. no lift required. I put 265/70s on my 04 2WD with no rubbing.

I've put a good 50,000 on my Michelin CrossTerrains. Not an aggressive offroad tire, of course, but a good daily driver.

I'm loving my Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors! Smooth, quiet (quieter than the stock Dunlops they replaced), seem to be pretty tough, and are pretty awesome on snow/ice. No traction control or anti-lock intervention at all on this morning's snowy roads!

I would look at General Grabber HTS. I don't know how long they will last but great traction and ride.

Look at tirerack.com under the survey link under each tire. This will show consumer ratings which I trust more than a magazine or a single source review.

I like the Revo's (now Revo2)... I got a little over 60k out of the stock Mich Cross-Terrains, then over 70k out of the Revo's... I'm on Revo2's now, with about 3-5k on them. I drive my 4R like a sports car too.

The Revo's give a good balance between on-road performance and light off-road performance. (I had BFG A/T on for a couple of hundred miles, couldn't get them to balance, they were noticeably better on dirt roads and grass/fields, but not as good on the pavement as the Revo).

I'm a big fan of the Revo, it's an all around good tire and not overly expensive. I went up a size over stock.

The OEM Cross Terrains stunk on anything other than a paved road.

I agree on the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. I was a loyal BFG A/T user until my last set which were pretty bad so I decided to try the SA's and I couldn't be happier with them.

Most people with this size have some sort of lift and/or FJ springs, but I also found this thread that it appears he put them on a stock vehicle.

The total height increase over a 265/70/17 is only 4-5 tenths of an inch, or a 1/4 inch in radius. The 265/70 fits without a lift. Maybe minor trimming with the 255/75. IDK

So I would say go for it. $205 each on Tirerack. Just seems high to me. I guess this is not a common size.
