Better gas milage for 5th generation

Got my best and worst mileage last week.
Premium gas (hey the company was paying).
Bakersfield area to Las Vegas, above 70 most of the way - 308 miles - 24.84mpg.
Around LV but not on the strip - 65miles - 15.90mpg
Back to Northern NV, way above 70 most of the way - 397 miles - 23.35mpg
stock tires at 38psi

WHAT!!! My wifes 11 SR5 has been getting no more than 17 MPG period. City, HWY, or combo. This thing is sucking ass on gas! Any ideas? It only has 2700 miles on it. Could that have something to do with it? I'm pretty freaking upset with the MPG, especially because I'm about to lift it and I know the MPG will just get worse.

Yeah, our TE gets maybe 15 in town. Is there a way to reset the computer to help with this? in my Xterra, there was a procedure that you did to reset the throttle position and a few other things and the computer started learning fresh. You had to drive easy for a bit, but it did help.
We need more info. How did she do versus the new EPA rating on her previous vehicle? What is her highway cruising speed? Does she anticipate upcoming stop lights? Do you live in an area with lots of stop lights? Jackrabbit starts/short onramps? Tire pressure set correctly?
My mileage didn't settle until about 10k miles. I can pretty accurately predict what it will be now that the vehicle is completely broken in.
What brand of gas are you using? I've found brand can make quite a difference. ARCO sucks, Chevron, Shell, and 76 seem about equal.

Comparing your milage is not a good idea. Even comparing your own vehicle with you driving it one week and then letting someone else drive it over the same roads will not be identical. Too many variables make this question unrealistic. Some of them are:
City vs. highway
Flat vs. mountains
Young driver vs. old
Money to burn vs. paycheck to paycheck
Proper maintenance (tire pressure) vs. no maintenance
Ethanol gas vs. no ethanol (10% change right there)
Heavy mods vs. no mods
Winter vs. summer
Heavy weight of normal cargo vs. single driver no cargo
and the list goes on. You and another person could have identical vehicles and get 40% difference in fuel economy! Asking for a number like this is sketchy. It could be close and it could be not close at all.
