Better Tires

I need some help. I have a 2010 4runner with stock 265 70 R17 tires on it. The tires are about at the end of their life and I want to use this chance to put a slightly wider, lower profile, and better make tire on it. Any suggestions on what size tire will work?

My objective is to improve the handling without pimping it out.

265? I thought 5th gen had 275/70/17's.

265/70R17 is the stock size for 17" wheels.

You said lower profile better tire... Not sure if its lower profile, but check out the Michelin LTX. It was my second choice, but I went with a more aggressive looking tire, Toyo Open Country AT II

Check out the Firestone Destination A/T. It comes in the slightly larger 275 size, and the tread is very low profile for an AT tire. It has great reviews on this site, and others. I love the 275 size, it fills out the wells nicely, without too big a hit on MPG. I have the Cooper Discoverer AT3, which is also great, but a bit more aggressive looking than the stock Bridgestones I had on there.

I have these as well. I think they're .4" wider and .5" larger diameter than the stock tires. Won't know for sure about my purchase until I get through a winter, but they're highly rated on tirerack.com along with the Michelin LTX A/T2s. Any tire you put on it will be better than stock.
