Beware Of this Seller

On 11/2/2019 I bought a 2005 4Runner V8 Sport from Jonathan Brandon Hill from Catoosa County Georiga. He is a lier and a scammer! He told me that this 4Runner had the timing belt & water pump replaced at 110K miles by the previous owner. I checked carfax and called the Toyota dealership where most of the service was performed. They check the VIN number and told me that the belt was NEVER serviced there. That does not mean that it was not done at another shop. I called Jonathan and asked him again, Was the Timing belt and water pump replaced? He reassured me that it was and said that he has seen the receipt from the previous owner and it had a credit card number on it so she did not want to give it to him. He also told me that he would call her and have her blackout the CC number and send me a pic of it. I waited until the next day. Then I remembered that I had her contact info. So I called her explained to her what was going on and she said Sorry I never replaced it. Thank you to her for being honest! You know what happens next. He won't return my calls or texts. I told him via text that he was a lier and a scammer and I was going to let people know NOT to do Business with him! It is a mistake that I will not make again!

If he isn't a member of the forums here, it probably doesn't pay to call him out. It almost sounds like he was "scammed" by the original owner - I'ts safe to assume that he would have replaced it if he thought it needed to be done. Anyways, it still drives, so make a point of doing a timing belt job ASAP. The best thing you can do now is not drive it until the belt, WP, etc. is all replaced.

Not saying you should wait, but I kept putting it off. Ended up doing it myself at 124K and everything looked brand new... no fraying or slipping of any kind. I'd say the 90k interval is highly precautionary. Did it again last year at 234k. Same deal. Everything looked just fine. Please, somebody save this admission so nobody ever buys my car due to lack of service.

not to 'victim shame' here but you are supposed to do all of this BEFORE you buy the car.

i bought a 235k 3rd gen a few months ago and i called a toyota dealer and had them verify BEFORE i bought the car because the dealer had zero maint history on it. pays to do your homework a head of time and ask for proof of everything a seller is claiming it to be. everything now is so well documented, its very easy to do a little research before hand and call out anything fishy when looking at the car.

hell to be honest, im surprised this scammer didnt try and pin it on the original gal. he easily could have since you didnt do your homework before hand and make her look like the bad person. chalk this up as a learning experience.

finally, receipts NEVER have a full CC number on it. its a security thing. its usually the last 4 of the card.
