Bfg's new at tire!

I am going to get a set of 17" tires for off road use and keep my stock limited 20's for trips and normal use. Off road season does not start here until late October. I am holding off on buying tires till these come out. Maybe I will be the 1st on this site to try them.
 
The original KO set the bar for the rest, but the Extreme Toyo just might be the top dog. Between the Tundra and T4R I've tried many and these two are best two AT's in my opinion. The KO2 can't hurt the mix.

It's certainly true that the original KO set the bar (even had a pair on my first Jeep when I was 16). However, it's kinda funny that BFG then decided that they did not need to make any improvements for the next 20 years. I guess it would be like buying a 2014 4Runner that is the same as the 1995 3rd gen sitting down the street from me. They are not a bad tire, but tire science has changed (improved) quite a bit since their release.

Agree 100%, but just got a new set for the T4R as Toyo didn't have the size I wanted, look and run good but overpriced.....

Looks like the KO2 no longer has the "rim protector". I wonder why? They boast %20 stronger sidewalls though :)

oh good, that is an improvement. that thing was terrible. issues with wheel weights causing slow leaks. crap always getting caught in there, and pushed into the bead, causing leaks. difficult to align, the wheels clamps don't fit in there so well.

the new tire doesn't look bad, as long as its not any worse then the old one. I really like the BFG AT, its my favorite tire for street/dirt use. full on wheeling, im prefer something in the TSL flavor.

BFG makes shitty tires. every single time i have bought a tire from them its never in true, it wears weird and/or cups, and it has terrible traction. the KM2's have crappy sidewalls and suck in the rain.

every tire that BFG makes, there is a better and cheaper alternative out there. i have given them 3 chances and that was 3 too many. maybe when they can learn how to make a tire that actually excels against other brands, while not being priced 40% more than them, and able to make it true to size - i'll check back in.

I'm looking forward to the new KO2's! I've had 2 sets of KO's over the years and have loved them. All of my offroading is in the desert, and that's what they are designed for. I've had zero issues, and I like how they wear. They last forever, wear evenly, and are quiet.

My 2014 Trail has the set of KO's I bought a year and a half ago for my '04. They have plenty of tread, but I'll be putting in a new suspension soon, and will be adding 285's. It looks like the KO2's will be on the market with perfect timing. :-)
 
I have run SEVEN sets of BFG's in my driving career for a total of around 250,000 out of my 825,000 miles my driving career has encompassed. In the '80's and '90's it was a decent tire, but only because the competition was not that keen. Now they are not even in my top 5 list. Too many better tires in the "AT" world now for performance and price, unless you buy tires based on looks alone.

Cooper
Bridgestone
Firestone
Toyo
Goodyear
Michelin

in no particular order as each of the above has good points and not so good points.
Right now Cooper, Toyo, Michelin, Goodyear and Bridgestone are the top 5, IMO. BFG's look good and that is about all compared to the rest.

Streetable AT - nitto terra grappler or the toyo open country AT2 Xtreme

Max traction - general grabber red label or the nitto trail grappler. In some cases depending on conditions, the Goodyear MTR Kevlar
 
I have been running BFG's on and off since the late 80's and have NEVER had even ONE issue with ANY of them. They were very good tires- some AT's, performance rubber, and even touring tires. IMO you can't go wrong with the brand and they are always on my list.

I try to keep an open mind when tire shopping and went with GoodYear this time around despite my past bad experience with the brand. So far so good.
I have had just plain awful experiences with G/Y, Firestone, Bridgestone and Cooper in the past too. I know people who swear by each one though...

Every brand has "winners and losers" in their lineup. Many people think the best tire out there just so happens to be the tire they purchased. Hmmmmm.

To say that BFG's are junk is ridiculous given the fact that they pretty much were the go-to offroad tire for many many years. They still make good stuff and so do many others, that's why they are still in business.
