Here is my .GPS file for SoCal and Utah. Upload it into Backcountry Navigator Pro on Android. The paid version is $9.99 and worth it. The free version should be usable as well but limited.

The app is great because:
* Lots of free government maps including the forestry service road names, topology etc most 10+ levels deep
* Download the maps on a grid while at home over WIFI then on the trail use GPS only mode (no data) and the map to locate yourself against the markers
* Upload your own waypoints or preset ones from Traildamage.com or whomever.
* Export import as much as you want
* See your cursor as you move across the map IN HD towards your nav points, basically it perfectly shows you against the map
* Search for a trail name. Seriously it works. Download the forestry service map, then type in the trail name in the app and it will show the trail and where you are located vs the trailhead.

We're still going. I leave in an hour. We're just going to have to avoid that area. Tomorrow we'll check out the trails south of the lake by rattlesnake and sat we'll do white mtn and dishpan

What are some good trails with water crossings?

3N93 (Holcomb Creek Trail) has one or two crossings but is rated a Black Diamond.
1N09 (City Creek Trail) has a few small creek crossings. Fredalba Creek, Plunge Creek, Alder Creek, Keller Creek, Bear Creek (Bridge), Deer Creek, then it meets up at the Santa Ana River at Seven Oaks. Just a fire road but crosses from Hwy 330 to Hwy 38.

Neither of these are significant but that's all I can think of at the moment. 1N09 has the most crossings but again not anything significant. Can't think of anything else besides those two trails.

I have two ways of sending the files over. I can either give you the link to a .zip file with a bunch of individual .gpx files or I can send you a link to a single .gpx file with all the tracks and waypoints all in one. Let me know. I can also send both if you want.

direct email with the SBNF.gpx file worked perfectly for me. opened it with Gaia and now it's a nice new folder with a fuxkton of unorganized waypoints i need to go through! still getting used to Gaia.

Yeah organizing waypoints in Gaia is a *****. But it's easier when it's all in one file/folder. I guess the color coding doesn't transfer over when the file is sent either. There might still be some waypoints that need editing but before I fixed a lot of them, they didn't even have trail names or numbers. Most of them were random "Trailhead 1" or some bullshit like that.

I am planning on going to Big Bear for 2 nights in about a week. There will be 6 vehicles in total and I am trying to figure out where we should all camp. If we go to a campground, each campsite is about $25/night and we would need 3. We would like to have all vehicles together, I was thinking camp off a trail somewhere but then campfires are not allowed. What do y'all usually do for camping with a group of rigs in Big Bear?

yellow post sites are free and have fire rings but are limited to two vehicles, although i highly doubt they come around and check that. someone else may know.

I was just about to say the same thing. You legally have to have a campfire permit to have a legal fire at the yellow post sites. I doubt they are issuing permits for those right now though. Yellow post sites are pretty cool since it's more off the grid style camping but campfires are probably a no go this time of year. Getting caught with an illegal campfire can cost you a few hundred bucks a pop and you have to go to the federal court too.

Looks like yellow post sites are no go for wood fires now. Restricted to developed campgrounds as of July 1st.

Best bet for a group and cheap is big pines, it's first come first serve though. A lot of the other ones are by reservation and cost more.

You can get the fire permits year round, but you still have to know the fire restrictions. Yellow post is done for the season, probably until October/November.

Dont mess with fire on Big Bear. If you burn down the mountain your face will be on every news channel lol Only place to have fire now is a developed camp ground.

for 6 truck I would do Big Pine Flats or Horse Springs. They are first come first serve. You have a good chance of getting 3 sites together as long as you dont show up on a fri eve. Hanna Flats as a last resort, but I don't recall the reservation rules.

You can also try a group camp like Ironwood, but you have to plan those out in advance, they are usually booked.

Also, there are badass sites all over the mountain if you go without fire. I know it sucks, but turn off all the lanterns and it will be a totally different experience.

Fire permits are good all over California. You can get one online any time. they only exists so people will feel like big brother is paying attention and maybe they will follow the rules. You need a permit to have a fire anywhere in San Bernardino NF except developed campgrounds.

We will be showing up Wednesday so we should be fine if we do decide to go with a campsite. But I think we will just camp somewhere random on the mountain without a fire since each vehicle probably won't want to pay $25 in campsite fees.
