Bigger Tires?

My Trail Edition came with some Dunlop AT20 M+S tires. I want to replace them with something better and maybe bigger.

Does anyone know (or have a good guess) what the max tire size is before a lift is needed (for the Trail Edition)?

Also, what is the max size/width that will fit the spare tire slot?

Are there potential problems that need to be addressed with bigger tires, e.g. will it screw up KDSS?

Post up some pics!

As for the tire size, well, there's not too many 4Runners out there as of yet, and even less that have replaced their brand new tires with brand new tires. So you'll probably end up being the ginuea pig on this one. Take it to a wheel and tire shop and have them try a few sizes in the wheel well and see what they recommend.

You cannot do a lift with KDSS but you may be able to barely squeeze up to a slightly larger tire. However, with KDSS, a larger tire may rub the wheel wells badly when a corner hydraulic cylinder is compressed under low-speed rock or mogul traversing.

I read that the GX with the KDSS could not be lifted and assumed that was true for the T4R also.

Perhaps the article or poster was misinformed.

Replacement tires

I am looking at replacement options for tires on my 2010 Limited. It is equipped with 245 60 series Yoko Geolander tires currently. I want to consider more aggressive offroad options and possibly a wider tire. Does anyone know what sizes will work without lift or other mods?

My brother has a 2008 Land Cruiser with KDSS and he has an OME lift on it with no problems. It should be the same on the 5th Gen as well.

Thanks. I am running Cooper Zeon LTZ's 275/60R50. I like them so far, have never had them before so I hope they hold up. I have had countless sets of Nitto TG's, thought I would try something else. Dont know the wheel specs, they are supposed to be a direct fit for a 09 4runner. I do rub under full lock and compression. Just a little, I need to trim the inner fender and will post something when I figure out the best way to do it.

Looks like some trimming is required, even after the lift.
