Bilstein 5100 - 0.85 or 1.75? Pics?

Obviously, it might not work for everyone and their specific 4Runner set up. I really wanted to level the vehicle and I was already 2" high in the rear compared to the front and I knew that the new FJ 4x4 springs (from MOOG) that I was going to put on would give me even more lift in the rear.

I don't understand how you got 2.5 inches of rear lift. I guess the Moog springs aren't really all that equivalent to the OEM FJ 4x4 springs.

Also, with a 4" lift up front did you have to upgrade UCAs to get a reasonable alignment?

Ukbloke, I thought the lift I got in the rear just from the new springs was unusually high as well and like you, attributed it to the fact that the Moog springs probably are sprung a little higher than OEM FJ springs or that when people put in the slightly used FJ springs they bought from an FJ owner that those springs may have "settled" or compressed a little. I wasn't expecting or even wanting a lift that high, but now that I have it it rides just fine.

As for the UCA upgrades, I didn't even think about that as I am somewhat new to all this, although I'm not completely inexperienced about swinging a wrench around my 4Runner. When I took it to get the new tires I made sure to get an alignment and they told me that everything looked good except the "toe" alignment (new term for me, they kindly explained it to me), which was way off and they corrected it. I've been going to this tire shop for many years and trust them and they said everything else was good.

I did the 1.75 lift on my adjustable bilstien soft my 2014 leveled it out Nicely

I also would recommend to anyone doing this to set it to the 1.75" setting and call it good. For my particular circumstance the 2.50" setting worked, but I doubt most people doing the swap would need their 5100 shock that high.

With setting at 1.75

I'm a bit perplexed. I bought the Bilsteins for the front and FJ coils (new Moogs). I couldn't compress the FJ springs with 2 tool sets so in respect to time I decided to throw the stock front springs back on. I set the front Bilsteins at the 2nd from lowest setting and my front is sitting at 40" to the top of fender, a 7" increase from stock tires (255/75 17 Duratracks new tires). I feel I got a solid 4" with stock springs at the 2nd to lowest setting (2 higher settings left) is that common?

Check what ukbloke said. I've also seen a post on here with similar results after their install. They ended up realizing that their springs were upside down. Something is definitely not right

Yes, ukbloke was right...so what's the consensus on driving it like this for two weeks. I grenaded a CV boot and figured I would just swap in new ones on both sides at the same time. The biggest problem is I kinda like the Cali look...I'm getting weird as I get older.

If your not doing any major driving for 2 weeks, like interstate or higher speeds. You MAY be ok. you grenaded a cv due to this mistake probably, that's also why you couldn't compress the spring. If your liking the cali look, set the billies on 2.5 with the fj springs, it will be closer to that look.

A bit of an off topic question, but what Happens if you move the setting from stock to say, .88" of lift on the billies with a toytec spring? Is there any danger or problems I may run into?

Saw where someone did this and caused the clip to blow while they were driving. All I remember reading was no one got hurt but he did a lot of damage to the truck. Put the stiffer moogs back on (less sag) and max the bils the right way until you get new UCAs to go higher.

So I changed my CV's and set the clips to the third setting and put the new FJ springs on top of the perches installed the right way. Lost about and 1' 1/2" but it looks excellent now with out the ridiculous Cali rake. Plus my blood pressure is super chill knowing the clip isn't going to blow out at any minute. I drove a total of about 100miles with them wrong I got lucky. I also went Royal Purple in the front did so that's one more thing complete on the rustRunner.

Do you have wheels spacers/does that tire size rub? Trying to decide my next wheel/tire move; currently in stock Limiteds with standard 265/60’s

Hi MantanaB6,

No wheel spacers. The tires did not rub before the billstein's and they do not rub now.

Cheers.
