Bilstein 5100 - 0.85 or 1.75? Pics?

Stock X-Reas shocks are leaking. Replacing them with Bilstein 5100's all around with FJ springs this weekend. Vehicle is a 2006 SE V8 4x4. Do not tow often. Trying to decide whether to use 0.85 or 1.75 setting on the Bilsteins in the front to level the truck. Will NOT put in spacers in the rear. Only the Bilstein's and the FJ springs all around. I know the FJ springs by themselves will yield a little bit of lift all around and Bilstein rear shocks do not provide any lift.

Been reading that people get different results because of variables in the setups: engine weight, springs used, etc. Leaning toward using the 1.75 setting, but it seems like I might run the risk of having a ever so slightly nose-high reversed rake?? But for some, it seems like 0.85 was not enough ..

Would love to see some pictures of similar setups with Bilstein's (0.85 or 1.75 setting) and FJ springs all around - with or without rear spacers.

I'll snap a pic tomorrow for you - I have Bilstein's all around with stock springs after doing the same & replacing XREAS, I think I'm at the 3rd setting on the front shocks but don't remember if that's the .85 or 1.75 dealio, but not to the highest although thinking about going there next. Where did you get your FJ rears? Looking for some now as well ...

Thanks. The 3rd notch is the 1.75. Do you feel that your truck is leveled? You don't seem to have a negative rake? I guess not, since you're thinking about going to 2.5! LOL

I'm not putting FJ shocks on the rear. I'm putting Bilstein 5100's on the rear too. Yes, I know - the rear ones are constantly on back order Got mine from offroadwarehouse - great folks to deal with! The front and rear FJ springs I bought from a local guy who took them off of his FJ with about 900 miles on them when he went for a different suspension setup. Paid 50 bucks for all 4.

Oh, I think a lot of people have been getting FJ springs from the FJ forum with reasonable prices. Craigslist would be another good resource.

.85 setting imo. With fj springs you'll get about 1.5" lift in the front. The next notch would be too much if you ask me. Check out pics on my Sig, I don't have the same setup but do have a similar amount of lift. I know 12guns has the same setup your talking about on the second setting, he's posted pics on here, you'll just need to search to find them.

This is the .85 setting. FJ springs and Bilstein 5100's all around. Original 265/65-17 tires. I have 265/70-17's now. Sorry the pics are a little dark, I've been meaning to get some photos in daylight with the new tires on. I may have some time this week. I'll post them up when I get them. I would stick with the .85" setting. Next notch up will more than likely leave you nose high.

Thanks, guys! .85 looks really good on those V6's! I wonder on V8 with a brush guard on the front, whether 1.75 would be needed? Curious to see what gman72's vehicle looks like.

Not with FJ springs, but with .85" Bilstein 5100 front, and Bilstein 5100 rear, no spacers on the springs, no wheel spacers:

Here ya go ... actually I was wrong, I guess I'm at .85" not the 1.75" ... keep in mind these are still stock coils all around as well... 265/70/17 tires too.

Spidertrax 1" Spacers

I wonder if i have , limited wheels , 2006 4runner (18") and bilstein at 0,85 in the front . i would love to install the Spidertrax 1" Spacers in the front and rear , and avoid rubing , i hate to trimmed the fender ..
Do you know if with just 1" Spacers can i avoid rubing and cut the Fender ? :car:

With no rear spacers, I would definitely go .85

Does anyone have photos (or a link to some) of a V6 2WD on 5100's set to 1.75", stock springs, no spacers? The picture above at 0.85" looks like there is still some rake to the front. I'm looking at putting 5100's on my 4Runner and want it pretty much level, but no rake to the rear. Thanks.

I know this goes against everything everyone else has done with this swap, but I set my Bilstein 5100's at the highest setting, 2.50" (GASP!). For me and my particular vehicle and it being a V8 and trying to accomplish what I was trying to do, it works.

Obviously, it might not work for everyone and their specific 4Runner set up. I really wanted to level the vehicle and I was already 2" high in the rear compared to the front and I knew that the new FJ 4x4 springs (from MOOG) that I was going to put on would give me even more lift in the rear. Because of that I was going to set the 5100's to at least the 1.75" setting. After completing the rear install, though, and seeing the lift I got I decided on the 2.50" setting and I am VERY happy I did so.

The measurements I got before and after, both on level ground and with a full tank of gas are as follows (with the after on new Cooper AT3 265/70/R17's):

Before -- front from ground to top of wheel well fender 33", rear 35"
After -- front 37 1/4", rear 37 1/2"

Like I said, I am VERY happy I set the 5100's to 2.50". The ride is great, the best I can describe it is like stock when the car was probably new, but better. Less roll when cornering, but not overly stiff or harsh. Very smooth ride. I love that it's "lifted" without "lifting" it. Nothing other than new springs and shocks. I also love that it is very close to level front to rear. Goal accomplished.

The weight of the V8 knocks down the rearward rake to about nothing.

I know you didn't ask for a zero setting pic but thought I'd share just to show what it looks like (maybe help with deciding?) can't hurt! All 2010 FJ Springs. I have since bumped it up to the .85 setting (levels the truck out).. Now I want to bump it to the next setting and throw a spacer in the rear. It's addicting!
