Bilstein 5100 garbage!!!!

Just the nature of how they have to be moved means they always have to get moved more than once if you want to higher than 1 notch, so I am not following the logic. I moved mine to the 1.75 mark and was careful not to spread the clips any more than necessary to move them. So they fell into the next notch as I was moving them up and I had to spread them again to get them to the 1.75 mark. Perhaps this is okay but once they have been put under load once, they should not be moved again???

I have a suspicion that failures like this occur because the clips are pulled apart too far when they are moved.

This could essentially make the clips a larger diameter and not allow them to seat into the groove fully. That would be my guess.

Bilstein not really saying anything other than they sent shop a large bag of clips and said that if it is moved more than once to put a new clip.

Wish I could comment on bilsteins being garbage or the best thing ever, but still waiting on them to ship out! Today I got my 3rd updated ship date of mid to late Aug from 4Wheel Parts. And I originally ordered this set April 4. Think I'm gonna have them refund my already charged card (another issue) and shop Kings and Icons.

I moved those clips up from bottom to middle to top and finally settled on middle with a spacer and never had 1 problem on my Tacoma and we drove the shit outta them. I was always fine placing that metal spring perch back over the clip and slapping it all back together.

I know that's a little higher price than advertised on 4WheelParts and a few other online dealer sites, but I ordered my set from Toytec a few weeks ago and received them in about 4 days (using only regular shipping).

Yes sir, talked to them today. Didn't order only cause they are currently out of the rears. Expecting a few hundred sets in about 10 days tho. Told them I'd call back next week after canceling and getting my credit from 4Wheel Parts. Mike in cust svc was knowledgable and the kinda person I needed to talk to.

I haven't fully given up. 5100s are back ordered like crazy now. It has been 2 months since my c clip broke. They did send me new clips that I had installed. Put them on the top setting as the breakdown damaged the shock from setting 3 and below. So far no issues, haven't jumped her but taken some firm shots intentionally to test. Seems clips are only good for one use. However, buyer beware, the clips do not stick out much. Their job is to hold up the base plate that supports the spring. The clips are not flush around the entire base plate, they are too small!

the clip size is fine. I ran these on my tundra which is much heavier and drove the shit out of it... never an issue

5100s are backordered like crazy? I ordered and received a set from Downsouth Motorsports last week for less than $350.

Yeah that is what happened. I have been using these for over 6 years and all clip failures so far have been installer error. This is over 10,000 5100 series fronts.

make sure to give the retainer clip a quick turn after it's in it's final position. This helps to insure that the clip is fully seated in the groove...

That is the way to do it.

Ah Vernier Calipers... forever making machinists, engineers, and mechanics (who know how to use them) walk up to their buddy and go "hey... does this little itty bitty line look exactly lined up with this itty bitty little line? I can't tell. "

Also what micrometer are we talking about? Interior, Exterior, Depth, Ball? Wouldn't a Blade Micrometer be a better one for measuring the ring groove depth.
