Bilstein 5100 vs 6112

I know this horse has been beat but I’m asking anyway:
Are the 6112/5160 upgrades still holding up reliability wise? I want to upgrade my stock KDSS suspension with about the same ride height as the Pro without compromising street handling or reliability. I read at least one comment that a 5100 set up would last longer but I don’t understand how except maybe the external reservoir in the back? Price isn’t a concern.

Thank you!

This is what i'm wondering after reading a bunch of shock upgrade threads.

Looking for similar results as you (stock height in rear, ~.85 in front) ideally using stock coils. Would like comments on how this shock setup (6112 front, 5160 rear) would perform with stock coils at stock height or should the coils be upgraded to FJ or others to match-up rates/compression/rebound better? Thanks a lot if anyone with knowledge and/or experience can comment.

5100s use stock coils or whatever coils you like such as Dobinsons or whatever. They are the standard 2 inch shock
6112s on the others hand are a 2.5 inch shock which required a bigger spring. They include the larger spring. Can’t use stock springs with 6112s

Coming from a 217 TRD pro Tacoma I really liked the ride on it; on and off road. I went with the ORP with KDSS and love the way this thing corners on freeway sweepers. My previous Pro didn't corner that good. I do feel that the 5th gen ORP is a bit too soft so I'm looking at the 6112/5160 routes well. Just can't justify the added cost of going with the other higher end suspension systems.

My question is what is the stock ride height of an offroad vs TRD pro 4r? Are the the same or is the pro slightly higher? I just want the end result to be slightly higher than my current height now with less rake.

The Pro rides a little higher up front by about an inch, I think the rear is the same.

Thanks a lot for this, it gets a bit confusing! I guess we can even buy these fronts pre-assembled to our chosen height spec depending on who we buy them from? Figured this premium setup will give me a better ride on rough road (and a better ride in general), decreased nose dive and with .8 fronts will lift the front a tad while still maintaining just a bit of rake that I like. Thanks for clearing the picture Judd94, me thinks this is my new suspension.

so is that equivalent to a 2/1 lift? I'm just trying to get a base figure to work off of.

No, 1/0 for the Pro models up to 2018 with bilstein shocks based on what I have read on other forums. I can see how my first post can be confusing.

I think its overkill because of the Upper Control Arms. You don't really need them unless your having a hard time getting it aligned. But would be nice to already have those on incase you want to upgrade down the road. But that same performance and lift height can be had for $800 with the same shocks and eibach springs.

Yep. Same ones.

also was thinking about this route. 2018 Tacoma TRD front shocks/coils and rear shocks. Local guy is selling them with 10 miles on them for 220. But I don't know if they will fit or if its going to give me that big of an upgrade. Should I stick with the eibach kit?

Can anyone tell me if pairing 5100 rear shock with ICON 2” spring will provide too much lift on the rear if I set 6112 at 1.2-1.75” or do you think I should use stock coils for the rear ?
Looking to do a mild lift on my limited but not sure what settings I should be doing. Tire size is 265/70/17.

The results won't be worth the labor invested in the project, if they'll work and they aren't adjustable.
