bilstein shocks w/ OME springs? Thoughts?

I need some input on the Bilstein shocks with OME coils that seem to be a popular combo as of late.

I have a 05' V8 runner and the front bumper is getting replaced by either ARB/Pelfrey(insurance paying for bumper) but I don't want to put it on the stock XREAS system.
What are everyone's thoughts on this setup?

I will eventually be going a long-travel setup in a couple years but don't have the cash and want to get out and explore.

I'm not sure anyone in the forum as ever gone with this setup. Not sure you'll find anything by searching...

OME full suspension -- Click here for details

from what I have read , its bilstien 5100 at 0 with ome springs. no need to set the shock at 0.85

NOTE: Med and Heavy coils are rated to handle additional weight from aftermarket bumpers, winches, and accessories and should NOT be used without stated weight already in or installed at all times. All lift figures are based on averages.

that's all I see on that link.

check out dobinson on this forum.

I have done some searching, however the majority of the stuff is older with no updates or too new to have time on the setup.

Do you have personal experience with them? How is it?

I did see in one of the other threads that it was brought up about setting it to 0 with the OME springs.

I have looked at Dobinson and looking at that option but love the tried and true OME springs.

Mine is from experiences.
Granted I'm on a v6, but full armor f/r, roof rack.

885s was a little too soft, but handled the weight and better than stock springs.
Have changed to 886 almost 1yr ago, billy's had a hard rebound. Went with OME big improvement on them coils, but not perfect. Again, on a v6.

Appreciate the input. The 885's seem to be the go to for V8's. The goal is to run a setup like this for a couple years till I can afford to do an extended/long travel setup

If your doing an aftermarket bumper, they suggest 886.
885 for no weight v8.

Mine a little too stiff with weight.

I love my OME 884’s with my Bilstein 5100’s. They ride very nice together. Mind you I’m a 2WD V8 with no offroad bumper so I got 4” lift from stock up front. I have received many compliments on ride quality

I run 883's with 5100s on 0 clip. They work well together. Got about 2" lift with only 2% rate increase over stock. I wouldn't use this coil with a heavier bumper.

Not sure of your budget

but you might consider the 2.5" diameter bilstein 6112 strut with the available 650lbs rated spring. no mixing/guessing and predictable calculated results...

How does that spring rate compare to the 885? Does the 650lbs spring come standard or is that another cost? Part number with the heavier spring? I agree a 2.5” shock would be better.

Check the ARB application guide available on the internet for the 885 spring rate. Cant tell you if theres an additional cost/PN since i have the 600 lbs coils on my 6112s. Google should yield you some results on the subject. Good luck..

The 885 is 590lb

I also would have gone with the 6112's if they had an spring option other than 600lb that didn't cost extra. Or if you could just buy the shocks alone . I didn't want to fork out another 170 bucks for springs to help with the bumper and winch.

Good to know, thank you.
