Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Cowboy, last question to you and everyone in this thread.

When you are doing the install for this kit, did you torque all the bolts to spec when the car was lifted or do you tighten the bolts, drop the car on the wheels and then torque all the bolts to spec ??

Torque suspension components while the vehicle is lifted, then torque your wheel bolts after it's down. That's how I've always done it, don't think it'd be possible to get to some of the bolts if not.

The answer is "it depends."

I pretty much torque everything *except the LCA / alignment tabs* while the wheel and tire are off. I read somewhere (years ago) that the lower control arm needs to be "under vehicle weight" when it is torqued.

Check it again after a day or two of driving to make sure everything is still torqued properly and make sure that you didn't miss anything. Check again after a week or so. Then just visual checks every time you rotate the tires.

It's not a bad idea to put a stripe of highly visible paint on the nut and threads for quick visual checks. If the paint lines up, you're good! If not, you know that you need to re-tighten/torque.

I just saw a few videos on youtube stating that you MUST torque UCA and LCA under vehicle load so that is what im planning to do.

:hello:

Just finished the install over the weekend. No different than installing any other replacement shocks and struts. Bolt on and go. Took about 4.5 hours start to finish, with a friend, and including TRD skid plate install at the end.

I only had 115 miles on the rig before install. I can’t tell a difference in drive feel. Since I’m in the minority on this opinion, I attribute that to the little time behind the wheel. I also didn’t measure heights before/after. I reused the top hats. I used the floor jack to compress the spring. Took my time and everything went as it should.

Yeah I really didn’t notice much difference either (300miles ODO). With kdss the body roll was never there to begin with so the only apparent thing would be not as much nose dive. I got about 1.25 inches of lift from them with both on the top clip.

Yea, I think if you have KDSS you wont notice as much of a difference. For me, my '16 Trail did NOT have KDSS and the difference is night and day.

Installed mine today with no help, pretty brutal. More difficult than installing Honda car suspensions for sure. Some guy on YouTube said he didnt remove the front skid plate/cover, yeah don't listen to that lol. Sway bar bolts and lca front bolts are too hard to get to if not.

So far ride feels good, was too tired to really tell however. I'll post pics/thoughts later.

Anyone with some miles on the suspension have any comment on what they think about it?

Im probably up to around 1,500 - 2,000 miles post install (since Memorial Day weekend) and I could not be happier. Ive done both on and off-road driving and, honestly, the on-road driving improvement is what stands out most to me. (Keep in mind, that's also what Im most familiar with, it still felt GREAT offroad.) My 2016 TEP did not have KDSS so the difference from stock suspension to the Bilstein setup is truly night and day. I promise you wont regret it.

Yea, having had a second set of hands for my install, I wouldnt have touched the install solo. That would have sucked.

I'll throw my brief thoughts in for anybody else who is thinking about doing this. I installed this kit on my 2014 Limited with about 68k miles on it last night. I also have BFG K02's on the 20 inch Limited rims which really change the ride quality. My brother is a mechanic and we had a lift and all the tools we need and we had it done in around 3 hours total between removing the XREAS stuff and installing the new. I didn't take any measurements unfortunately but plenty of others have and the front is definitely more level with the rear. Next year I'll probably get a spacer for the front and some Sway-a-Away springs to lift the rear a bit.

I'm getting an alignment today but my initial thoughts on the ride quality difference between the XREAS and this are that it's both slightly stiffer and yet more compliant. Minor road heaves here in Wisconsin feel the about the same to me but anything that is a significant pothole is much better. By far the biggest improvement so far is the brake dive. It is SO much better and that was one of the main things I wanted to address. I'm looking forward to get more miles on it.

I am happy to report the sound "clank" is gone.

Took the suspension out and re-installed with the correct torque values.

Thank you for everyone's help :)

Very happy with the result. Mild lift overall and reduced the front rake while still retaining some. On road it feels GREAT. Side body roll is hardly there any more... cornering feels amazing now. Still feel a little nose dive while braking but it is greatly reduced. It feels like more of a controlled ride overall, for example going over speed bumps it used to bounce a little after and feels much better now, like it settles down quicker. Smaller bumps feel more firm but I think that could partially be due to the KO2s which I got recently as well.
