Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Would love to know your new front end measurements. Getting the same setup, but going with 1.5 inches of lift in the rear and 1/4 inch spacer up front

Interesting notes:

When I originally bought the vehicle it appeared virtually level. After inspection I couldn’t find any aftermarket suspension parts front or rear. I used the runner to tow a 18.5’ 3500-ish lb boat every weekend and wasn’t fond of the back sitting lower than the front. So I installed 1.5” daystar spacers in the rear.

So all before measurements are completely stock suspension with a 1.5” daystar spacer in the rear:

Both ground to fender and hub to fender measurements included. Hub to fender measurements are harder to get accurately, but help others that don’t have same size tires, etc … Therefore, all calculations are done with ground to fender measurements directly through the center axis of the hub.

Pre measurements taken with 1/4 tank of gas, post taken with a full tank.

legend:
g-f = ground to fender
h-f = hub to fender

Pre PTR13-35140; stock with daystar 1.5" rear spacers:
LF g-f: 35 1/8”
LF h-f: 20 1/2”
RF g-f: 35 1/2”
RF h-f: 20 5/8”
LR g-f: 37 3/8”
LR h-f: 22 1/4”
RR g-f: 37 3/4”
RR h-f: 22 3/4”

Post PTR 13-35140 and Moog FJ rear springs:
LF g-f: 35 3/8”
LF h-f: 20 5/8”
RF g-f: 35 5/8”
RF h-f: 20 7/8”
LR g-f: 37 1/2”
LR h-f: 22 5/8”
RR g-f: 37 3/4”
RR h-f: 22 3/4”

Left Lean Pre PTR13-35140:
Front: 1/8 “
Rear: 3/8 “

Left Lean Post PTR 13-35140:
Front: 1/4”
Rear: 1/4”

Lift per corner:
LF: 1/4”
RF: 1/8”
LR: 1/8”
RR: None

Overall I’m very happy. I was looking for an improvement in driving dynamics and to replace the old and very tired stock suspension, not a lift.

The fact that stock fj rear springs are pretty much equal in height to my original sr5 springs with a 1.5” spacer, speaks volumes to how trashed my original setup was.

Weird. I'd expect a bit more lift than what you got. Any chance you had non 4runner coils up front?

From what I understand, the kit is supposed lift FJ's an additional 1". FJ coils are supposed to lift our trucks another 1" up front. Which makes me think this setup would net around 2" of lift.

You're not the only one that thought it was weird, but as I noted earlier, my runner always seemed higher in the front than most.

I suppose there's a chance as I bought it with 98k on it 4 years ago. But 7 years of professional experience wrenching indicates otherwise; no witness marks on hardware, even break away torque on all fasteners, and all OEM parts. In addition, none of the maintenance records (I have all of them) indicate any suspension work.

Front struts are already at the scrap yard so my investigation is wrapped up. Perhaps a ninja tech installed some fj springs, or even taller OEM looking springs, and did so very cleanly.

Ninja tech. HA!

Thanks again for the information. Incredibly helpful and much appreciated.

I am halfway through the install with a test drive for a soda break. I have the fronts at the top perches and I am 2.5" right front and 2.25 left front. I'll take some other measurements once I get back to denver.

Installed my kit today. Nose dive and body roll are both significantly reduced. Large high-speed highway bumps no longer cause excessive undulations.

The ride: 07 SR5 4WD V6

The setup: PTR13-35140 and Moog fj rear springs. 265/70/17 K02s

I'm lazy and tired from wrenching so measurements will have to wait until tomorrow.

If you have the means and the availability to source it, I highly recommend this setup.

Looks great!

2 Q's : Looks like you netted a couple inches even (assuming) without spacers...Are your moogs standard height or lift springs?

Also, did the rear reservoir bolt directly to the frame (threaded hole?) or did you have to improvise a way to mount it (rivnut/threaded insert or other) ?

Thanks

Moogs are standard height and I was lucky enough to have the threaded hole. The only necessary modifications were enlarging the rear upper shock mount holes and widening the front lower strut mounts on the lower control arms. I did not grind the front strut bushings for clearance.

I did not source any additional hardware, everything was included in the kit.
I bought new bushings for the rear shock. Didn't want to reuse my 10 year old OEM ones.

Two total sets for the rear? Should be a pair with a "hook" and one more pair with just a rubber bushing and attached washer.

I'll have to look when I get a chance...I thought they both had the hook, but I hadn't opened the packaging yet

Rear spring differences

Can someone help me understand the difference in the T12 vs. the T13 as it relates to the 4th gen?

Wheeler's site says the T12 provides approx 1.5" on the 4th gen but gives the 5th gen 2.5" lift. Why would it be more lift on the 5th gen?

Their site also says the T13 gives the 5th gen 1.5" of lift....then what will they do to the 4th gen? Would it only be 1/2" ?

I would've thought the lift of any spring would be less going from a 4th to 5th gen due to the increased weight ?

Along with the FJ shocks I'm looking to match one of these 2 in the rear (or something from Dobinsons) along with either a different (non TRD) front spring (maybe T1) or spacer for level.

Looking to achieve between ~2-2.5 total. Thanks

On the 4th gen the T13 yields around an inch while the T12 yields about 2"s. Theres also the dobinson 323 - 1" and 559 -1.5" available as well.
