Bilstein's lower setting.

What's up guys. Little info before I go to the shop tomorrow. I got Bilstein's 5100 all 4. With OME coils all 4, you can see it in my sig.

My question is, I put the front at the lowest settings thinking the coils would make the truck even but I see a front rake and it bothers me a bit. Going tomorrow after work to set it a the highest setting. Will it cause problems ?

I also have airlift 1000 set at 20psi. And I carry a Plano sportsman box with emergency b.o.b. stuff and fishing gear. around 100lbs total in the back.
And I have the parts to install a dual battery under the hood that I don't seem to have time since I moved to the new house...

It won't cause any problems, but do you have to go to the highest setting? Why not try the first perch?

Hi man thanks for your reply but I am not doing the install myself and 3 hours of work with the alignment is about 300$ puny Canadian dollars .... If I go circle by circle by circle its going to ruin my wallet :(

They don't recommend anything other than the lowest (bottom clip) or the 0.85" (2nd from bottom clip) with 2.5" lift coils. Anything more than that and you will be over-extending the struts.

Oh, and the .85" setting should be what you want to get it close to even.

Just my 2 cents.
:yo:

I concur with BLACK-FL4RUNNER. You set the front at the highest setting with a 2.5" lift spring you'll look like you're on stilts up front. Bad for the CV's without a diff drop, and no way to get it aligned without changing UCA's. In fact I'm not even sure the 5100's have the length needed to cover what would be 5" of preset on the springs. If you want it to look level just go with the .85" position. That'll give you a little over 3" in front against the 2" in back. And they'll still have fits getting you any decent amount of caster for the alignment.

I found this.

1st setting = 0 inch
2nd setting = 1 inch (.85 inch, varying sources of information)
3rd setting = 1.75 inches
4th setting = 2.5 inches

How about I set it at 3rd setting for 1.75 inches ...

Is that reasonable instead of the max setting like I planned on doing ?

You already have 2.5" of lift with the springs up front so you will need to leave the billies set at the lowest setting. that's also per Bilstein's instructions...

Why are you running so much air in the rear bags? That's why you have rake- the rear springs are already providing lift and you are probably getting around 1" more with the airbags. Set the bags at 5 PSI - 100# is nothing- especially with aftermarket springs and you won't have any sag.

Hello Antman, I run them at 20psi because I like how the truck drives especially with our roads, even if they are at 5psi there is rake. About 3/4's to 1 inch in the front.

I took measurements and that is the reason for my post to find the sweet spot to make the truck level.

I read on the Tacoma forums also and the guys over there said it is different for every truck depending on many factors.

I think I will go with .85 and let it be :/

Well- good luck with that.

The same Bushwackers others either love or hate depending on personal opinion.

Go with the 0.85"/2nd notch. I have already 'splained earlier. My initial setup in my first year was 1.75" front and 0 rear on factory springs. With this I was body level but had a slight frame reverse rake. You already have 1/2" more front than rear spring. Adding .85" is as close as you're going to get it. As you stated above you only need to make up 3/4 - 1". Accept that 1/4" +/- final result is not going to be visible except to the most OCD observer. You're still going to have over 3" in the front ONLY going .85" and you may HAVE to look at doing a diff drop and UCA's. And like Antman said, 100 pounds isn't even worth considering. I was regularly running a couple hundred pounds of work gear with no noticeable settling in the rear. You're overthinking this. :wink2:

3wbdriver got it setup up like you said .85. Got a pic on the alignment table :)

The dudes at the toyota dealer were amazing an knew wth they were doing. Got 3 guys working on my truck and I left happy ! Thats what matters right ?

Here is some pics.
