Black roof rails

Hey, sorry for the noob question, trying to get past my 15 post limit too, but are these roof rails stock on all 5th gens? Also, how are they mounted? It looks like there might be 4 mounting points per side?

For an inexpensive and reversible fix, try 3M vinyl wrap, which you can order from Amazon or other preferred seller. I've only used it on my interior door handles (I deleted the roof rack). This was the first time I used the vinyl and I thought it was fairly easy. The roof rails and end covers should be easier, if you remove them first. I didn't like the glare off the chrome handles.

Too soon to tell how well it will last, since I just put it on in early November. All I can say is, so far so good. I'm not worried about it peeling, but it is vinyl and can be cut or scratched (so can paint or plastidip, for that matter)

If it lasts a reasonable amount of time, then I wouldn't mind reapplying it again. The vinyl was pretty cheap through Amazon at about $14 for a 12 inch by 5 foot sheet - that's a lot of door handles

It is very easy to remove if you change your mind or want to try a different color. Just use a heat gun or hairdryer, find an edge and start peeling.

so this was pretty simple? didn't have to take anything off? 2 things I don't like inside are the door handles and that piece of aluminum on the passenger side above the glove box. didn't like the center console, either, but i pulled that out and shot it with plastidip.

I didn't remove anything, although, it may have been easier if I had removed the handles. However, removing door handles (and door panels, etc) is not something I care to do while my vehicle is rattle free and still under warranty. I'm one of those guys who seems to break things, while attempting to take them apart.

I also wrapped the chrome AC vent adjustors, not because I don't like Chrome, but I don't like reflective glare from the Sun.

I think it was simple, although you should know that what your are looking at is the 3rd attempt after 2 failed tries. My skills improved with each application. The job took about 2 hours, including the failed attempts, mostly because I was learning how to wrap. The hardest part is wrapping the small tip of the handle without getting any visible wrinkles. You should know that there are some wrinkles on the backside of the tip. But you can't see them from any angle or feel them, unless you are really trying to find them.

My advice is to watch 3 or 4 YouTube videos showing you "how to wrap" and give it a try. I bought 5 Sq ft from Amazon for about $14 and still have about 4 Sq ft left. You'll also need an exacto knife.

What are you guys that painted your roof rails using for paint?

Are you sanding/priming/clear coating?

I want to purchase the black 2010-2013 trail roof rails but I've been having trouble finding a seller.

So I may just paint mine instead.

Also after you remove them to paint, do you need to reapply silicone or anything like that when remounting the rack?

That does look good, and I do have some left over wrap from doing my rear bumper valance, but I wonder how it holds up to ratchet straps etc? I imagine it would nick and tear and have to be redone fairly often.

How have yours held up?

It's my wife's car so needless to say nothing gets strapped down the only off-roading she's done is tearing my sprinkler system up do you have a picture of what you wrapped on the back?

Hmmmm. I'm a little hesitant to wrap the rails then as I will mount stuff up there from time to time.

Plasti dip is super easy. I've done it dozens of times. The reason I don't want to do it on the roof rails is that it will rip and chip and peel off when you ratchet strap and mount stuff up there.

Not to hi jack but:

First, my intro. Life long gear head back to 70's when I got my first sports car.

Owned my LC 100 for 12 years. Best vehicle period I ever owned. Unfortunately at 17 years old and 200k she was getting a little tired (read rusty).

So last week I traded my cruiser in on a CPO 14 SR5.

It' a really nice truck; with my understanding that no matter what you move to, going from a cruiser will be somewhat of a step down.

Enough about me, and onto the factory rack.

I need to mount my Thule crossbars so I can put my 11' aluminum boat on the roof. Issue is the length of the roof rails is pretty short. Do they make longer rails so I can move the front crossbar forward a bit?

Wrapping rack

I was just getting ready to offer selling 3m matte black vinyl to wrap the roof rack. Ill be selling them for $35 shipped for 2 43"x4" strips. Attached are before and after pictures.
