Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

So don't be stupid like me with those badge overlays. I had them installed all perfect and everything. Then because I just wanted to help the adhesive stick better (since they need to stand up to the Alaskan winter) I figured I'd take a heat gun to the badges after the overlays had been stuck on. Long story short, I held the gun for a bit too long (about 5 seconds too long) over the "E" and the "R" on the back and the overlays started to curl over and warp. So now I'll be ordering a new set, and just using the letters from the back, and then I'll post the two toyota emblem overlays and sr5 badges for sale since I won't need those.

I plastidipped the front and back Toyota logos and the 4runner chrome. Pretty happy with the results, we'll see how it holds up. I'm wanting to do the front and back bumper covers on my TEP black also but not sure if plastidip or a vinyl wrap is the way to go?

That turned out great! My emblems on my last 2 cars were sprayed with Plastidip and it held up great.

I know this is an old post, but anyone have any experience with wrapping the roof rack? I want to black it out, but don't want to spend a fortune/ large amount of time. I plan on getting a full size rack in 12 months or so.

It's not what you asked, but I plastidipped the rails (using 3 cans) and it held up fine for the 9 months before I replaced them with my Gobi. Blacking them out is one of the subtle changes with a big impact.

I've wrapped both mine and a buddy's rails with the 3M film noted above. Holding up great and super easy. Just need to take the rails off completely and then be patient to get the slight curve on the film.

I think my buddy took some photos of me doing his if you need them....yet pretty straight forward.

Looks great! I did not have good luck with Plasti anywhere on the front of the 10 SR5. The big Chrome bar that the 10-13's had was so torn up after a couple years. I got lazy and did not clean it off or redo it until I traded it in last week. Goo Gone and a few rags got it back to its original bling bling state. I guess I could have not applied it correctly (i.e. thickly enough). YMMV.

ETA, for thread purposes, I did my front logo in grey plastidip, removed it and sprayed it by itself so the plastic behind the logo stayed black. I want to do the back too but I haven't taken the time; I figure it'll be a pain peeling off all the grey overspray from around the letters.

has anyone successfully removed the chrome strips on the rocker panels and bumpers? Id like to wrap in vinyl rather than plasti dipping with them still on the truck.

No need to removed it. Just head over to your local vinyl guys and they can take care of it fairly quick. They did my truck in about 90 minutes.

I actually just bought a kit for my Trail edition. Being that the trail doesn't have side badges, I have the 2 SR5 badges leftover.
