Blcktpgsr's '97 transformation

Hahahaha....yep. Your truck is totally old hat now dude. Please stop posting pictures. I'm sick of this boring truck.

JUST KIDDING. I wish every day I had time to expedite the build of my rig....and then have time to take it out wheeling. There's a reason why this site is addicting, and a lot of it is the ability to live vicariously through everyone who is lucky enough to wheel their rigs. All of us that don't get to in real life, imagine we are right there on the trail with ya.

By the way Ervin, when are you gonna get a rear tube or plate bumper so you can sell me those ugly black bumper panels??!!

Dude that was our little secret...:repuke:

I didn't see you posted pics! Looks like a great trip. Rig looks right at home in the snow.

Sure was a great trip....learned my lesson though to be more equipped next time I head out, that icy packed snow was a pain to get out of. I really thought the truck would've handled it alot better..I underestimated nature this time around........Lesson learned!

Yeah, the hard pack stuff will trap you fast. Not hard to get high-centered in it. Fresh fluffy dry snow is the best. So much fun to play in and you can get some really good traction in it too.

Yeah the mud grapplers were next to useless, well... as would've been any other tires I guess.

I'm thinking that If you dont wash your rear window for a while, I'll submit some photos on your behalf and get your truck in the next Fast and the Furious. Blcktpgsr on the BIGSCREEN.

Dude, your truck looks so badass. I actually can't get over it....

:lol:Funny thing is that I didn't even notice the writing until we were driving halfway home and the sun hitting the back window revealing it thru my rearview mirror.

oh it just brought a smile to my face, shook my head when I saw it. Called my friend on the two-way and soon as I mentioned it, he just burst out laughed........I got Vtech punked.

Dude that was our little secret...:repuke:QUOTE]

Hey man, love the truck, been following it for awhile now. I have a question about your roof rack. Any chance you could measure the length/width for me? Thank you so much.

Yes they originate from Japan thru a local import dealer here in Vancouver, B.C., but seeing as you're from Taiwan I can't say for sure how you can get it.

You can definitely inquire about it. Here's the company I got mine from

hey blcktpgsr how you like the mud grapplers?

Great tires and while I only have the KM2's to compare them with, the MG's out perform the KM2's for my use. I like the fact that these tires have the extra sipings on the lugs which makes them do better in the snow. They grip great and clean out well.

They have great road manners, drives smooth and are wearing surprisingly slower than I anticipated. Rotating them often I'd say plays a major role to good wear. I must have about 10000k's on these so far after the California trip, awhole lot of wheeling here at home, and I swear the lugs haven't worn more than 1/16"...can't complain about that!

Off road?..........it's off the chain and it bites!

Ervin, WOW. My jaw dropped to by keyboard when I saw your pics. Badass! Looking forward to seeing your truck this summer, and I like your sticker on the back window! Haven't seen you around there for a while!

I dunno Addison, don't want to be stealing your AMC's thunder with Ervin's truck...Just sayin'.

thanks!man!
I'd check the webside just now,but they don't have that cool stuff anymore!
maybe i should wait longer for it.
I have some friends living in B.C. I think they can help me to shiping.
thanks again!
and i'm just doing mod my runner and following your way!:biggrin2:

Hey Vic! We've actually been discussing about a possible trip to Whipsaw this summer my buddy and I, hopefully this works out and although it's still tentative, I'll surely keep you on the loop regarding that.

Time to see that CBI of yours...take care buddy!

thanks!man!

I've been meaning to ask you where you got your truck from when I first saw it in the Picture gallery section but never got to it. Man it must be nice having one over there where there's lots of terrains, huh?

As for the tire carrier, you have to make the call and reserve one for yourself, or have your friends here do it for you. The company doesn't normally stock those items in their lot as it's a special order.

Thank you and follow away:boink:

hmm ok thats good to hear, i have some on now very used but wasnt sure how long they would last, either MG's or baja claws. thanks man

No work for me today, so I just spent the last hour and a half at least reading over this build.

All I gotta say is...I don't think I have ever gawked over a 4runner so much. You've really put a ton of work into this thing since the beginning.

Wish I was checking out this forum more when you came down to CA, I would have loved to see this thing in person. Any chance you head down this way in the next year?

Keep it up!!

Well i'm grateful for the time you set aside today man, at the same time for the nice sentiment.

As for another trip over there? It's gonna happen one time or another. Maybe this time I'll get to wheel with you, too.

About a month ago today I found a brand new set of 35's on Craigslist and thought hard about getting it or not.
Alot of factor played out in my mind.

1. One was whether I could make them fit and make them functional during trail runs. It'd be kinda pointless
otherwise..yep I too also had my doubts beyond my abilities.

2. I know my 4Runner can handle them no problem since I re-geared to 4.88's(good move).

3. My 33's have only worn down 1/8" amazingly after about 10000km on and offroad mix driving, so I could still
sell them for good return profit.

4. Also me and my wheeling buddy have always talked about up-sizing as well(Billy's on 34" Maxxis Bighorns).

5. The price was a good deal around here.

6. And no I have nothing to prove or showcase to anyone..lol!

You can still see the ad on Vancouver Craiglist fot 315 75 16 Mud Grapplers this time.

SO....my impulsiveness got the best of me..joking!

Anyway I had Billy mount one tire up on the wheel, which was my spare so I could start to assess how much
trimming I needed to do. I also didn't wanna start pounding with the BFH since I have a welder at bay.

Here's a photo of the coilover removed as well as the fender/liner. My 33's had absolutely no rubbing
whatsoever after clearancing for them, but with the bigger and much much wider 315's, there was rubbing at
full bump and lock to lock.

I went at cutting and welding and finishing off the drivers side before I could remember taking photos so,
let's forward to the passenger side. Basically, I knew at this point how much I needed to
trim away so I didn't bother removing the coilover here and just replicated from the drivers side.

I rust-proofed and undercoated everthing after I was done. Also I couldn't run the tires without my 1.25"
Spidertrax due to the UCA rubbing, so Off I went and trimmed a little bit of the fender and the flare.

I have no issues with the rear especially since I custom fabbed the bumper end flares to adjust and retract.
All I did was fold the fender lip and also added a 1 1/4" spacer on the bumpstop so as not to over-compress
the shock and coil and also to prevent the tires from travelling in further.

Blurrrrr!

Testing and stuffing in 35's...Note that this is also with the 1.25" wheel spacers.

Oh yeah...You may also notice that I put some silverish pinstiping on the wheels to break off the black.
And after a quick test run, I'm happy to report that the rubbing issues associated with the 35's have been taken
cared of. The only rubbing I have is with the steering wheel at full lock both ways and the tires rubbing
on the frames. No biggie! I also have no issues with the passenger tire hitting the windshield washer reservoir.
NIce!

Time for some wheeling! I've deflated the tires down to 19 PSI!..

This was yesterday when we went to Hale Creek in-------It's about a 130km drive from Vancouver...basically some
km long forest service road, some creek crossings, really rough terrains and steep, washed-up road. A nice trail
treat for the 35's maiden voyage. A picnic shelter made out of some log post and beam structure can
be found at the end of the trail by the beach. By the way thanks to t4runner604 for coming and showing the way!

I'll feed you guys with more photos....haha!

The shelter made by some volunteers of our local BC4x4 group. Posing is my welder friend who I've learned so
much from.
