About a month ago today I found a brand new set of 35's on Craigslist and thought hard about getting it or not.
Alot of factor played out in my mind.
1. One was whether I could make them fit and make them functional during trail runs. It'd be kinda pointless
otherwise..yep I too also had my doubts beyond my abilities.
2. I know my 4Runner can handle them no problem since I re-geared to 4.88's(good move).
3. My 33's have only worn down 1/8" amazingly after about 10000km on and offroad mix driving, so I could still
sell them for good return profit.
4. Also me and my wheeling buddy have always talked about up-sizing as well(Billy's on 34" Maxxis Bighorns).
5. The price was a good deal around here.
6. And no I have nothing to prove or showcase to anyone..lol!
You can still see the ad on Vancouver Craiglist fot 315 75 16 Mud Grapplers this time.
SO....my impulsiveness got the best of me..joking!
Anyway I had Billy mount one tire up on the wheel, which was my spare so I could start to assess how much
trimming I needed to do. I also didn't wanna start pounding with the BFH since I have a welder at bay.
Here's a photo of the coilover removed as well as the fender/liner. My 33's had absolutely no rubbing
whatsoever after clearancing for them, but with the bigger and much much wider 315's, there was rubbing at
full bump and lock to lock.
I went at cutting and welding and finishing off the drivers side before I could remember taking photos so,
let's forward to the passenger side. Basically, I knew at this point how much I needed to
trim away so I didn't bother removing the coilover here and just replicated from the drivers side.
Capped
I rust-proofed and undercoated everthing after I was done. Also I couldn't run the tires without my 1.25"
Spidertrax due to the UCA rubbing, so Off I went and trimmed a little bit of the fender and the flare.
Drivers side looking from the inside....Passenger is duplicated
I have no issues with the rear especially since I custom fabbed the bumper end flares to adjust and retract.
All I did was fold the fender lip and also added a 1 1/4" spacer on the bumpstop so as not to over-compress
the shock and coil and also to prevent the tires from travelling in further.
Blurrrrr!
Testing and stuffing in 35's...Note that this is also with the 1.25" wheel spacers.
Oh yeah...You may also notice that I put some silverish pinstiping on the wheels to break off the black.
And after a quick test run, I'm happy to report that the rubbing issues associated with the 35's have been taken
cared of. The only rubbing I have is with the steering wheel at full lock both ways and the tires rubbing
on the frames. No biggie! I also have no issues with the passenger tire hitting the windshield washer reservoir.
NIce!
Time for some wheeling! I've deflated the tires down to 19 PSI!..
This was yesterday when we went to Hale Creek in-------It's about a 130km drive from Vancouver...basically some
km long forest service road, some creek crossings, really rough terrains and steep, washed-up road. A nice trail
treat for the 35's maiden voyage. A picnic shelter made out of some log post and beam structure can
be found at the end of the trail by the beach. By the way thanks to t4runner604 for coming and showing the way!
I'll feed you guys with more photos....haha!

The shelter made by some volunteers of our local BC4x4 group. Posing is my welder friend who I've learned so
much from.
