Blew Headunit, thoughts? (JBL System)

So,
My battery mistake has been corrected. No harm to the car except I blew the radio. Oh well.

I have the JBL speaker system with Sub. Can someone how had this system and replaced their head unit BUT kept the speakers, including the sub, give me some advice?

I do know, I believe, that the issue surrounds the complexity of the JBL System and the sub. The amp was packaged into the Head Unit. Ideas?

I used my apline CDE133BT HU with stock speakers for a while, it was fine, then I blew the sub and a few tweeters and just said F it and replaced every speaker and the sound is much better, I also did ARK's JL sub mod

What do you mean about the amp? it's located by the sub in the rear cargo area panel and can be replaced if you blew it

And it is the Head unit that is blown.

Do you know it's the head unit for sure? Have you checked the radio fuses?

You can use any radio with the right adaptor. I like the kenwood nav units. I recommend buying from Crutchfield. They have a great price on the adaptors and you get the dash kit for free. Plus they an authorized dealer so warranty is intact. I ran the kenwood with my JBL for a couple of years before I upgraded everything. Sounded better than the stock head unit.

I just pulled mine out of my 04 Limited, have it up on Craigslist. PM me if you are interested in simply swapping out rather than upgrading.

I went with an Axxera and it was a bit of a pain given the amp connections. I had to get an aftermarket adapter, and it's still not all that loud.

Update:

Techs didn't check the smaller fuses. I had a dome light fuse, both radio fuses and trailer light fuses blown. Replaced, all is well. Everything works now.

Thanks for the info. I do intend to put another head unit in it eventually, but I am waiting out 1 feature to drop in price. I have an Android phone with free hotspot and want a headunit with WIFI ability to use that as a data source. I want a head unit that can update maps on its own, as well as PANDORA through itself.
There are a few on the market that work via iphone and a cable, but not many for Android or WIFI. There are a few and they are very expensive. As with all options, wait a generation or two and the price will drop. 1 year ago 0, now a couple at around 1k. In another year, I suspect more and a large price drop. Intend to wait it out.

If you do want to upgrade your head unit at some point for the additional features you mentioned, I just finished putting a Pioneer AVIC 140bh in on mine.

You can keep the factory amp/sub setup, you can buy a TATO converter from PAC that will trigger the turn on and properly run all of the balance/fade data signals. It connects to the RCA outs on your new HU and connects to the factory wiring harness in the dash. You can also use an AXXESS ASWC-1 or similar to interface to the factory steering wheel controls.

The Pioneer works great with my Android phone.

Nice. Is the Sub wired through that or do the pre-amp outs work for it? I get a b it confused how JBL wires up the SUB in the whole 10 speaker "surround" setup.

I know in a traditional car system, you would just run to the amp via the pre-amp out ports.

I do want to upgrade, but with a baby on the way, these kind of "extraneous" expenses get placed on the back burner.

It all goes through the factory amp. This includes the center channel and rear pillar tweets.

All of the processing takes place in the amp including fade/balance/surround/etc... There is actually only one left and one right input and then a set of data lines that the head unit uses to control the settings in the amp.

The TATO will handle all of this conversion for you along with the signal to turn the amp on and off and allow you to keep the 10 speaker setup with an aftermarket unit.

A separate plug has the connections to the factory steering wheel controls that the AXXESS would connect to.

On a side note, I bypassed everything. I put a 5-channel amp in and ran all my own new speaker wire to the doors. The only factory wiring in play is the harness to the factory plugs so nothing gets cut.

You will also need a Metra Y-adapter for the diversity antenna and a Scoche mini-delco converter. About $15 worth of extras to allow your factory antenna system to do it's job properly.

The diversity antenna system has both a large and small connector. The Y-Adapter and the Scosche adapter allow you to connect them both to a single antenna input that you'll need for your aftermarket radio.

If you only hook up one, your reception will typically only be moderate at best.
