Blizzak 285s on a TE without a lift?

I'm almost ready to order a TE (w/ KDSS) and while I plan on giving it a mild lift to allow for 285s and improve the appearance, I probably won't get to it until late spring or early summer. I also want better tires for the rest of winter and from the reviews Blizzaks are my best bet. It would be nice to have them in 285s to match the tire size I'll be going with after the lift.

I've seen posts here saying that some 285s will fit without rubbing and was wondering if I can put on Blizzak 285s for the rest of winter without problems? I won't be going off-road during winter so the worst suspension flex will be entering and leaving my driveway and any potholes I don't see in time to avoid.

I do not have experience with the Blizzak's as I have Michelin's. However, when I first put on my 285's, no rub at all. Then I moved the castor forward for steering reasons. I then experienced minor rubbing on the front inner wheel well fenders, but only while in reverse and the steering wheel locked far right or left. I simply moved the inner wheel well fenders and no more rub.

So I guess it all depends on your castor setting. (Although your Blizzaks's may actually be slightly larger due to tread design). Not sure. I would suggest that where ever you are buying your tires from, if they have the 285 Michelin's as described in my signature block, set them side by side before install and measure carefully. You'll be fine once you do the fender liner mod -- it's very, very easy to do.

That said, Bridgestone lists the 285/70R17 Blizzak DM-V1's as having a 32.8 overall height. That matches the "listed" size of my old 285/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors I had on my stock TE. I got a little rub on the liner like most everyone, but after moving it forward a bit, rub was gone.

Good luck and hopefully you guys in CO will actually need your winter tires this season... ever since spending the $$ on a set of Duratracs for my TE (and blizzaks for my wifes car) last month, it's been bone dry here in Utah...
