Wait a second. I thought machine shop checked the blocks?

If you end up with a crack and they didn't find it... time to find a new machine shop.. unless you cracked it in transport back or something like that.

The block is a lot harder than the aluminum the heads are made from, so I believe it's common to take a razor blade to it, clean it up with some acetone, measure it for flatness, then call it good

ohhhh right, the cast iron block having a crack you mean.

right right, that wouldn't be checked. i forgot, he just took the heads (which are aluminum like you said).

what was the report from Pence when you took the heads in? My first guess would also be a possible mixup on the new head gaskets.

Where is the leak?...front, back, middle, exhaust side?

Edit...lemme guess, right outta the front above the thermostat? If so, I know what's wrong

Also, what headgaskets did you use...were they like a stack of thin metal shims or were they the composite style gaskets with sealant applied around all the water/oil passages on the block sides?
