Blown Motor! (Supercharged)

Well, my lawyer has the lawsuit drafted, and I finally got the car back (45 days later). I will be filing the suit next week.

Total cost $12,500 CDN for a new block, and to have my head re done, since i took out some valves.

Toyota Canada says, "We have also noted that the TRD supercharger is not distributed or sold by our Parts Distribution Centre and therefor not eligible for Toyota Canada warranty coverage."

Since I purchased the Supercharger (NEW) in the US, and not in Canada Toyota Canada, will not warranty it and put the claim into TRD USA. Which I think is a load of crap. I asked if I towed my car to the Buffalo (Closest to Toronto) and had a US Toyota dealership look at it, they would have taken care of it. (supposedly)

The kicker is Jomar (I think thats his name) was a nice guy (from TRD) but said his hands are tied.....


Oh well.. they can deal with my Lawyer now..

On the other hand, im ordering a stage 5 Renntech kit for my SL55, which should make it 613hp/626 lbs/ft torque.

Funny thing is when I talked to Texas Toyota a few months back, the parts manager was mentioning what would happen if the vehicle didn't shift out of gear and the supercharger continued to create boost.
Maybe you should drop him a line-possible this has happened before?
If Toyota Ca won't cover the warranty, why did the dealership install it?

Maybe they installed it and stated no warranty? Or installed it expecting no problem and now they are trying to wriggle out of it?

UPDATE!

Well after a couple letters, Toyota Canada, is reinbursing the total cost of the block replacement. So Im getting a check! And since I paid for it on my AMEX, i get my free Air Miles too!

So I am happy with Toyota again..

The tranny decided not to shift from 2nd to 3rd.. and bounced off the rev limiter a bunch of times.. and

BANG! I think i took out some valves.. I've got a nasty clicking noise!

Oh well.. off to the dealer it goes! and secures the fact im buying another car.. (I was up in the air about it) and now Im getting a Benz SL55!

They never told me. They said after my letter of disgust, and my threat of media and legal recourse, they apologized and gave me my money.

I find it interesting that you "removed" your earlier posts. My memory was that you had discussed other non toyota parts in your truck. There is no way this should have been covered. Did you remove them at the suggestion of your lawyer or was it something you realized all on your own? These actions are disgraceful.

The payment you received under the "circumstances" you described contributes to the high costs we ALL have to pay for new vehicles.

All of the 4runner owners on the site should be upset with your actions. We all just paid for your new block.

The high price of vehicles? Maybe you should just take a bus, or public transportation.. Maybe it was because of me the cost of gas is going up also...

If TRD built the supercharger, that didn't blow up motors maybe I wouldnt have had the issues, me and alot of people have of bending rods. Its its a design flaw in the secondary computer. I have spoken with alot of unhappy owners on how they also blew there motors... How my motor was damaged was not from a "aftermarket" part, since i did not grenade a piston from a airfilter of leaning out. It was from there design of the supercharger and the way they use the bypass valve. The bypass valve does not close prior to hitting the rev limiter. The rev limiter bounces... which in turn keeps the charger creating boost.... THAT is what happened, which made the piston slap a valve. THUS bending a rod. Easily said Overreving.

Also, if the forum members are not happy with me. It does not matter. I am selling the 4runner and moving on with vehicles. It may or may not be a Toyota.... I think I have contributed alot to this forum, by purchasing, testing and giving many people advice on what or what not to do.

I would have removed the other parts because:

A. They did not cause the problem.

B. They could make the problem more difficult to diagnosis.

C. The dealer would not be responsible for damaging them (or if they turn up missing).


j0 did nothing fradulent. He didn't remove the SC, or have nitrious installed. I really don't think warranty repairs are increasing the prices of new vehicles, parts, or service.

The SC and ECU work together to get more power. The ignition timing, air mixture, etc is engineered to work with FACTORY OEM parts and setting. Installing a cold air intake or a UNICHIP throws everything off.

As a toyota stockholder and vehicle owner, part of that money came out of my pocket one way or the other.

I'd be curious if Toyota would have been willing to pay for Jo's silience if they knew of the "other" things going on with that 4runner.

By the way Jo, it is more than price. We are talking about what is the right thing to do.

The right thing to do, would be for Toyota to redesign the engine, as these V8s are prone to throwing rods to begin with!!

Now that would do wonders for your stock.

I find it hard to believe, that nobody on this site, has ever returned an item they've bought after its been used, for a full refund. That has the same effect that you are complaining about.
