4500k and below are the most usable lights...plus yellow is cooler than blue.

I had some 4500K HID's in there and yes they were bright as heck, but i felt bad pullin up on people and lighting up the whole inside of their car. On top of that, people were flashing me all the time too. I aimed them down and it helped with the glare but than i couldn't see anything here is a video of my experience

Read through the first few pages of my thread. It shows and explains WHY putting "blue HID's" into your stock housings is a bad idea. Pay close attention to the light output pictures of each setup.

I have a lot of knowledge about all kinds of subjects but I'm brand new to all of the 4Runner mods and everything about it so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. It's so easy with this entire Internet now a days, but I want to get personal experiences (from you guys). I know a lot of you have had your trucks for a long time, as it's almost 15 years old. My dad has had his for about 14 years now and there hasn't been one major problem with it yet (besides small problems here and there, nothing big though). I'm in love with it, I love everything about it. I second your statement about it being one of the best I will own, because nothing, nothing at all can be equivalent to the 4runner.
Says the guy who's had internet his entire life!
You gotta get the basics down first before you start messing with stuff like wrecking your head and tail lights. How are the tires and the brakes?

Hey I'm a 4th gener and I pulled up behind a little Mazda Miata and my stock halogen bulbs just lit him up like a little rolling Christmas tree.
There was a BMW behind be earlier and he had pure blue HIDs and I could tell he couldn't see sh!t. He was following very close behind and I could see him practically squinting. He got beside me and my old halogens lit up the road further than his HIDs. Maybe the here old or angled improperly but that wouldn't have changed much. I find my stockers to be fine and work well. My old 98 could have used a little more light through the glass lenses though.

A person was making a reference to when he was younger, saying how when he was 17 he knew everything about his car and the older generation (which he's now a part of) didn't know about anything. I began getting accustomed to the Internet when I was 10, not my entire life. I'm simply stating that since there's so much crap on the Internet with guides and YouTube videos that it's become so much easier, hence my statement. I'm looking for insightful comments and help, not sarcasm.
The tires are absolute crap, the brakes are absolute crap, the gas pedal is absolute crap.
As of right now, I have three priorities: New 18" Magnaflow exhaust, tinting my tail lights, and MAYBE blue HID Lights.
In two years (when I have a substantial amount of money) I will upgrade my tires, brakes, and fix my gas pedal which is kind of floppy don't know how to describe it.
How the hell would putting in new head lights wreck them?

Can you please elucidate and explicate what you are trying to say because you have simply confounded me.

I'll chime in as I've used HID's in the stock housing as well as a retrofit. First off a retrofit blows all HID's out of the water. Yes they are more money to begin with, but the light output is amazing. Well worth the initial cost IMO. I had a set of DDM tuning HID's that were 6000K, but soon hated them with a passion. The light was extremely scattered and very hard to aim them well enough. Plus 6000K is plenty blue and will be a lot better visibility than 8000K or 10000K. Those colors are almost unsafe and will get you in trouble with the law.
So my suggestion is get a DDM tuning kit if you don't want to commit to a full retrofit. They are cheap enough and people do have good luck with them. If you choose to do a retrofit later on, then you can always use your hi/lo harness and ballasts and just buy the bulbs and projectors for a simple Mini H1 retrofit.
Also where in Cali are you from?

I think you need to upgrade your tires now, it's the only thing keeping your vehicle in contact with the road. And your brakes too....both these seem kinda self explanatory and exponentially more important than some silly HID's.
I agree, there is definitely plenty of crap on the internet. You can find a how-to on pretty much anything. Unfortunately just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do something. The internet is a great place for people to share what they know and to find out information. The internet is also a great place for people who are full of **** to post useless information and present it as something worthwhile.
Putting the wrong bulbs in your headlights will significantly reduce the performance of them. You really don't understand how covering your tail lights is going to wreck them? Think about the function of a tail light, and then think if your modification is going to improve them or not. Here's a hint: Its not, its going to make them dimmer and less safe.
You say yourself that the tires and brakes suck. And yet you're planning on putting on a loud exhaust and wrecking your lighting to start. The math doesn't add up.
I'm not trying to "confound" you, I'm trying to help you. Do yourself a favour and get your truck running properly. THEN if you have some time and money play around with stupid modifications. And think about whether what you're doing is something that's going to actually improve the vehicle, or if it's something that will do nothing more than looking "pretty" at the expense of seriously compromising the performance of your vehicle.

whow whow whow... an 18" magniflow isnt gonna gonna be loud, its sounds nice and has a good tone to it, sure its louder than than stock but their are many others that are louder. as far as tenting the tails goes yeah it will decrease there ability to emit light, but a lot of guys here do this, so dont go knocking a new guy for thinking about doing so, thats just immature. -maybe advise him to go light on the tinting.
yes i would agree that it would be best to upgrade tires and brakes first, but what does the OP mean by they suck?, are they just street tires that do just fine for daily driving on the hwy and have plenty of tread, but just not some "cool" or good looking off road tires? heck i say if he can get another 20-40K miles out of them then he should run them down and live with them while saving his money for the tires he wants! and brakes maybe its just this this truck isnt his friends subaru STI... and it doesnt stop as fast as it... sure the brakes on our rigs leave some to be desired but that also doesnt mean we all need to rush out and replace brakes that fine. our ABS is a huge issue and has cause many people close calls if not accidents that probably could of been avoided... -have you I_brad fixed your ABS system!? if the OP only has $200 or 300 to spare and its burning a hole in his pocket let him have some fun with his truck to make it his... one of the best ways to learn things as a person (adult or other wise) is by first hand experience and making mistakes or poor choices.
-to the OP im not saying that anything you have mentioned -barring the blue HIDs, will be a bad choice or a mistake so dont read that last bit like that.

Thanks for saving me the time to having to write all that out because you just wrote everything that was on my mind. I appreciate you backing me up. What I mean by sucky tires is that they are not for off roading or anything special, just some regular street tires that my dad just put in about 6 months ago. I'm saving up for new tires like all of you have, the off roading huge tires. Just don't have that money now, barely got my job 2 months ago. By sucky brakes, I mean they're not that quick to stop like other cars but still stop in a proper and safe amount of time. The only problem is they don't stop as fast as other brakes which I'm planning on upgrading in the future. For now, everything on the car is stock and I have no problem with it. I'm not going to wreck my headlights or my tail lights. Tinting my tail lights a little wont be a problem, everybody and their mother does it. I'm having my mechanic do my HID's and I'm going with 6000k. That's all.

I brad don't tell me to get my truck running properly either because you've never seen the way it runs. My truck is in great condition even at 187k miles. I've had it for 14 years and there hasn't been one problem besides small ones here and there. I know my truck runs better than some cars that are '06 and older and mines a 99. My dad loved the truck the first time he drove it and he still didn't want to give it up. Think about this, he's a dentist and has been the manager of a Western Dental for the past 15 years and he's driving a 14 year old truck, only because he still loved it. He could've bought a brand new car back in 2002 but why would he? Doesn't that tell you something? It's been well maintained ever since. The only reason why he bought his new car was because he knew how much I liked the 4runner and passed it down to me. Plus I got my license last year and promised me after a year of having my license he would give me the car. Don't assume everything, nothing you say is logical anyways. You have no concrete evidence or supporting details.

Meh, we all learn from experience. Its just that i had some 6k HIDS in my camry's reflectors and i thought they were great at first.. and after some time i wish i spent the same money on quality halogens. So go ahead, maybe you will like it more than I. 6K is much more useful/tolerable than 10k. When i first got my 00' the light output as shoddy, so i hopped online at got a pair of HELLA's 80/100w from amazon for 7 a piece.. much better light output. Also make sure you aim your headlights as best as possible.. and since you're just getting into cars: why dont you just install the HID's by yourself? Its a pretty simple install even with a power relay.
I get where you are coming from though: decent budget mods since you're young and not yet ballin' yet haha. I suggest you search COB's thread on the magnaflows.. another model i would suggest is borla xr-1 or flowmaster 40, 44, or 50.
Burbank!! You're pretty close to my home over in Woodland Hills! Don't tint too dark if you do... its pretty obnoxious when its just jet black and no doubt you will get pulled over for it.
