Blue Smoke on starup...

This weekend my wife borrowed the 'Runner and I noticed when she started it, a puff of blue smoke came out of the tailpipe...I had just moved it an hour before, so it hadn't been sitting long. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if something like this would be covered under warranty. I've only seen the puff once so far....

In the 6.5 years of having my Tacoma I have seen what you described once. Never on the 4r but we've only had it a few weeks so far. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start to see it a little more frequently.

its called gelling or sludge.

a lot of toyotas get it. call in to the dealer's service dept. to see if they can change your oil.

it should be free.

Blue smoke = oil is being burned. The infamous "puff of blue smoke..." upon start-up usually means a worn valve guide or seal.

How many miles on the truck? If its just guides or seals, the parts cost is minimal but its a fairly labor intensive job. If its under warranty, definitely have it looked at & professionally diagnosed.

i had a problem with smoke coming out of the exhaust on my '04, turns out that my valve guide seals had been incorrectly installed from the manufacturer. it took the service dept at my dealership a month to resolve it - all covered under warranty up to 60,000 miles.
