Borla or Magnaflow

For those that have one or the other what are your thoughts? I'm coming from a Tundra with a Corsa exhaust that I loved, quiet when cruising and nasty when you want it.

I have a Magnaflow on my Tundra and I love it - I ended up putting a Flowmaster on my 'Runner though, because it was half the price of a Magnaflow. It sounds good - it doesn't have the polished muffler or tip like the Magnaflow does, but it didn't make sense for me to put shiny exhaust parts on my 'wheeling machine

A V6 4runner is never going to sound as good as that V8 you had in the Tundra. Aftermarket exhaust should only be put on V8s in my opinion. It will sound ricer.

I don't know about Borla, but I've eliminated Magnaflow as an option.

The Magnaflow I had was okay at best. It was a bit ricey for my tastes. When I was searching through different exhausts I found the riceyness to be the case with all of them.

Nothing will be the least bit similar to your Tundra's sound.

Me too. I believe in rewarding good customer service and punishing horrible service like that - until/unless Magnaflow makes it right, I'll never consider them, no matter how they're priced.

I have had both. A weld in magnaflow and a cat back borla. Love the cat back. The magnaflow had to much drone because it was too small. Quality of both is good. The borla system is barely louder then stock.

I have a Borla turbo XL P/N 46625 or something like that. I really like it. Not too much drone, doesn't sound ricer and has a nice grumble. I had a flowmaster on my 05 tacoma and that sounded pretty good though but had more drone, my vote is the Borla

If you're just concerned with changing how it sounds, save the cash and just change the muffler instead. The idea of going with a full cat-back is for performance benefits, not sound

I had the Borla cat back on my Range Rover sport and on my 5th gen, not sure if im going to put it on the Land Cruiser or not because I love the sound of the V8 engine by itself. The Borla was awesome and got nothing but compliments from people for both trucks. I will say it did sound better on the V8 Rover though. On the V6 4-runner, it was deep enough for me, no drone at highway speed and i dont think it was ricey at all.

If we were talking a V8 muscle car I would say Borla but for a V6 SUV I’d keep it stock.

Agreed with the nay-sayers: I've yet to hear ANY Aftermarket V6 Exhausts (on Domestic or Foreign motors) that sounded anything resembling "Good" to me. Being an Auto Trans makes it even worse IMNSHO. Everytime I hear a V6 (any V6) with a "robust" Exhaust, I just cringe and wonder "WTF are they thinking". I like a good V8 growl, but still detest any kind of droning.

I might ponder a "Performance" Exhaust if it were to net me +20HP or so (if it would actually dyno @ 290HP), but I seriously don't think that is likely with our 4l V6's w/o doing headers, a full exhaust, and a proper ECU re-tune (is that even possible with our Yota's?). Then your well into the thousands for less than 100HP gain (probably more like + 30HP-40HP real-world). If there was even a slight drone to deal with, I'd still pass (so annoying!)...

If you personally like the sound of an opened-up V6 Exhaust from inside the truck - then go for it. If you are buying aftermarket exhaust to make your truck appear "Cooler" to observers/pedestrians outside the truck, I'd suggest avoiding it as it will only make people like me (and the others in agreement on this thread) wonder "Why, oh why?"

The stock exhaust is surprisingly robust yet quiet IMO - that's a large-ass-volume muffler for a V6!

I put in just a magnaflow muffler, asked for no drone, plus flow. I ended up with more drone than flow, will replace soon, sounds like Borla is the way to go. I end up getting into the throttle more than I normally would to eliminate the drone the coast at neutral throttle, grrrr....
