Looking at getting the borla XR-1 (Part 40941) from summit for $134.95. 2-1/2 in inlet/outlet. Just wandering if anyone has any experience with it how they like it.

I've got the one you're after.

Sound wise, sometimes it sounds great, sometime it just sounds like a loud muffler. Seems to depend on the weather and if the engine & muffler are cold or hot, most of the time. When it sounds good though, it sounds really good. LINY4Runner's video of this same muffler is what sold me on it over the other brands. Sometimes it's fun to take the truck out of overdrive just because the muffler sounds so good. NOTE: I've only heard MY muffler from inside the cabin.

I do have two young girls, aged 1 & a few months away from 3. My oldest daughter is fairly soft spoken, so a lot of the time it's hard to hear what she is saying over the sound of the exhaust in the cabin.

Mine was welded in the same spot as OEM. Where the pipe from the engine meets the OEM muffler is where this was welded, and then extra pipe was added out the exit of the muffler and welded with some of the remaining OEM pipe. The one I ordered was center in/center out.. and since the OEM is offset they had to account for that. Just keep in mine where the muffler is welded, and the exahust tip, will play a role in the tone of the muffler.

The place I had it installed @ (Midas in St. Louis Park, MN) didn't do that great of a job, so it bangs on the frame over hard bumps, really bad job bending what little pipe they had to add, and horrible looking welds. The reason it bangs is because they had to cut the OEM hangers from the muffler back (except for the one at the tail pipe), and didn't add the new ones like they said they would have to do. Unfortunately I didn't realize that until a while later when I figured out the cause of the banging noise I would hear on hard bumps. Just throwing this info out there, so make sure you check the work of whoever does the install! I didn't, and regret it!
