Besides the fact that toyota tells you it needs them, your engine has 6 cylinders and the spark for all 6 come from 3 coil packs. Each time the coil pack fires for the particular cylinder that needs it, it also fires the other cylinder that is connected to that particular coil pack. The design of the dual electrode plugs is meant for that. As I said before, I cant tell you how many times I have had customers come in with a misfire after putting in junk single electrode plugs in and having the miss go away after factory plugs are put in.
