They're fine. I think they are pricey though. I just changed mine out with AC/Delco. I read all this stuff about the problems with using a single electrode plug but I have not had a single problem with mine. AC plugs are $2.00 a piece. The local shop gets $5.00 for the Bosch.
 
Honestly if you care about how your truck runs, use only denso or ngk plugs and tune up parts. I cant tell you how many people come into the shop that have done their own tune up's with crap parts complaining it isnt running right. We put in factory stuff and it runs perfect. Dont be cheap, use the correct stuff
 
Well, I'll defer to your greater experience but I really can't tell any difference in the way the car runs with the AC plugs. Do you know why the original plug has two electrodes? I'd be interested to know.
 
Thanks for the replys. I had gone ahead and bought them. I havent installed them so Im going to try to return them. I thought Bosh was suppose to be great plugs , guess I dont know as much as I thought. One reason I like this web fourm
 
Never ever ever would I put Bosch plugs in a Japanese vehicle. Everyone I have ever seen put them in Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans have had their vehicle run like garbage. I only use Denso plugs from Toyota in my 4Runner and NGKs in my CRX and 510.
 
I ask again, is there technical reason why I should pay twice as much for a spark plug? I'm not trying to be a smart @$$ but all I'm hearing is "Oh Yeah Don't ever do that". Why?

Besides the fact that toyota tells you it needs them, your engine has 6 cylinders and the spark for all 6 come from 3 coil packs. Each time the coil pack fires for the particular cylinder that needs it, it also fires the other cylinder that is connected to that particular coil pack. The design of the dual electrode plugs is meant for that. As I said before, I cant tell you how many times I have had customers come in with a misfire after putting in junk single electrode plugs in and having the miss go away after factory plugs are put in. Toyotas in general dont respond well to non toyota tune up items
 
I don't know why you guys are complaining about the price. I changed out my plugs with OEM Denso a couple of weeks ago and I got them for $2.50/plug at the dealership. Plus another 10% off on top of that.

I agree.
Depending on how they sit in the combustion chamber you might be able to index single side electrode plugs to work but, why bother? The factory wants a certain spark kernel in a specific direction in the chamber. Traditional single side electrode plugs may end up indexed away from the most effecient direction for combustion.:D
 
I purchased a '96 3.4L 4runner about a month ago. For about the last 3 days the engine has had a miss that has gotten progressively worse. Today(Sat) I replaced the plugs, wires, fuel and air filter. The old plugs were single electrode Autolites. I replaced them with NGK 3967 dual electrode plugs ($4.49 ea). Along with that miss I had lousy fuel economy I am sure at $3.50/gal the plugs will pay for themselves. The engine runs great now. Nice and smooth! The local Toyota dealer actually had a better price on them than NAPA but every other thing I purchased was at least double the price
