Both rear doors making a noise??

On my '99 T4R, both doors behind the driver and passenger doors make a "rattling" noise. It's a little hard to explain, but basically in the mornings, after the truck has sat overnight and has gotten cold, I get in, crank it up and as I'm driving to work, both rear doors make a rattling noise when ever I hit the slightest bump in the road. But when I get off work and drive home, I could hit 20 potholes and neither door makes one noise! Obviously, the truck has had time to warm up over the day, so whatever is causing the rattling noise, only does it when it's cold. I know it's not the seatbelt clips or locks, the jack isn't loose, and the fold down seats are not the problem. I've currently taken my door panels off and it's not wires rattling around.

I've come to the conclusion the noise is coming from where the door locks to the frame of the truck. The doors lock fine and don't appear loose at all. Now the problem is, how do I keep them from rattling? My '00 T4R doesn't make this noise, nor has any other vehicle I've owned make this noise. It's just weird that both doors have the exact same problem. It's hard trying to find out what it is, b/c the truck has to have been sitting for a while and gotten really cold. Any ideas?? Please help!!

i dont know if its the same noise i had, but i wd-40'd the hinges and locks and my rear door noises went away...

i have that EXACT same problem. only when its cold....both rear doors (never front). I have removed all the door panels and everything but it only happens in the mornings when i go to school. I have not yet been able to re-create this noise any othe way (to diagnose the problem). I have lubed everything on the door that could possibly be lubed, but it still doesnt sound like a lube problem. I just sorta started to live with it since it only happens in the mornings or when my truck sits for a while and its COLD. Any help anyone????? btw i have a '98 sr5 4wd (dont know if that helps at all...) thanks

I started to believe it was the door not fitting well against the car. or the hinges or something structural, but that still doesnt help explain how it ONLY happens in the COLD and when the car has been sitting..... ahh i donno. i give up i guess unless someone has answers.. (cause i sure dont)

I had a similar noise. Unlatch the seatbacks and pull them out just a little so they're not locked all the way up, more like resting against the lock. This seemed to stop my noise. I've got to look closer for a more permanent fix now.

I dont know how this could explain the cold thing, but are you sure its not the latches for the rear seats. Mine tend to rattle a lot. but I put some padding around them and it helps it a bit, I gotta do it better though. But I have a lot more rattling throughout the car to deal with when my sub hits.

Maybe the door seals are a bit contracted in the cold moring and expand to tight when they warm up.

Thank goodness someone else has the same problem! I was starting to think I'm the only person to have such a weird noise issue on a T4R. I've tried having Toyota look at it, but where I live, it's starting to get warm in the mornings and it's not doing it as much to actually have a tech look at it. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to fix it. I'm almost to the point of just having new doors put on! (j/k, not really).

I thought it was the seat backs too making that noise, but after laying them down, and driving like that for a few days, I realized it wasn't them. I'm like druuu88, I swear it's coming from where the door locks to the frame. It's just weird, b/c the doors are tightly shut!

Another thing, I'm beginning to think this problem is a factory issue. Obviously since I'm not the only one w/ the problem and second, how come it's coming from both doors and not just one?? I wonder how many other T4R owners have this problem.

well this morning i tried unlatching the driver side rear seat to see if it still made the noise. That side DIDNT and the passenger side did (couldnt put that one down due to someone sitting there later and it would be a pain). So i guess i will try to find a solution to this...any ideas??? I am still not 100% convinced that this is the real rattle...

well, now I'm just praying summer will hurry up and get here so I don't have to hear the rattle every morning on the way to work! I hope someone knows a fix for this.
